Rain

You move to the window and peer out into darkness, the daylight seemingly vanished from view. Bella joins your side, still not having released your hand. "Damn rain." She mutters.

"At least it's only rain." You give her a friendly nudge with your shoulder. She bites her bottom lip in frustration. Rain drops splatter heavily against the pane that separates you from being drenched.

"We need to block the gate at the bottom of the garden, who knows what might come through."

"We should probably do it now before it gets worse."

"We?" She looks over with wide eyes then shakes her head which throws her black hair over her face. "I can handle it on my own."

You flick her forehead. "Not in this weather you're not." She keeps her head down and covered so you can't see her reaction.

"You gonna need our help mister take charge?" Sam asks from behind. You look over and see everyone else, bar your family, standing close by.

"Not today, you guys should learn where everything is first." You turn to Lucy who tries not to look over at you. "Lucy."

"Eeep." She lets out a loud squeak. "I mean, yes brother. I mean, what do you need?" She looks flustered, probably still thinking about the car ride. A fun car ride.

"Could you show everyone around the house, it's quite big and I don't want anyone to get lost." She jumps to her feet and gives an enthusiastic nod.

"Tour guide Lucy coming right up." She gets to the front of the pack. "So if you'll follow me, you'll see the front door this is one of five doors to get in and out of the house..."

"Don't forget to get them some clothes!" You call after them.

"Thank you, I'm glad you could distract her." Bella whispers at your side. "But we don't have time to dally, you're right after all, we don't want this rain to get worse while we work." She leads the way to a set of shelves and hangers by the front door that holds an assortment of shoes and coats.

As you're slipping on a pair of walking boots a sudden thought fills your head. "Aww damn. I left my jacket at home."

"What do you mean? Which jacket?" Bella asks mid way through tying a boot. You actively focus on not eyeing up her smooth long legs.

"That leather jacket you bought me for my birthday when you couldn't get home in time." She stops and stares at you with the curl of a smile forming on her lips.

"You still wear that?"

"Of course I do, you bought it for me." She looks down and continues tying her other boot. Not quick enough as you catch a glimpse of her smile, something she rarely shows. With both boots on she puts on a large rain coat that covers all the way to her tight ass in her shorts. She hands you another coat as you stand up finished, your not as long only to your waist.

You go through the house and exit via the back door. The rain steadily pours over everything, a complete contrast to a few hours ago in the city. Bella leads the way down the steps that lead to the much smaller gate at the back of the outer wall. Luckily there's an old shed down there that holds piles of spare materials such as; thick pieces of wood, concrete mix and scraps of metals.

"We'll just put some wood across to keep this gate barred and then sort out a more sturdy solution once the rain has stopped." Bella has to almost shout to be heard. You respond with a simple thumbs up from under your soaked coat. At least it's warm still.

* A little while later

The rain did eventually pick up. The constant steady pour shifted to a volley of mini bullets bouncing off your thin coat, which isn't able to block all of the rain form getting through. You managed to drag large pieces of wood over to the gate while Bella drilled them into the wall. There were a few gaps between the wood but it was strong enough to keep the gate shut.

On the way back to the house you let out a chuckle. "Why didn't we just padlock it." Bella stops dead in her tracks, so suddenly you almost walk into her.

"It wouldn't work." She mutters quietly you almost miss it. "We'll need something stronger soon." You and Bella don't say anything else on the way back. Inside the back door your strip the coat and boots straight off. You contemplate stripping your soaked top when you glance at your sister, she stands still with her head down, in the dripping coat.

You take a step closer to her. Tears fill her eyes as you take her hands. "It's okay. We're gonna be okay." Her tall figure crumples into you wet chest, your arms instinctively wrap around her as she silently cries into your body.
