Rachel calls about the high school reunion.

The years flew by, and soon I was turning 29 and planning for our high school reunion. I'd made enough money that we'd moved closer to our hometown, kept in shape, and helped Talia open a little gallery for her work. We were even trying to have kids.

Of course, gathering our friends had proved impossible. Corrine was flying around the world for photoshoots and Stephanie kept moving for her opportunities. Rachel traveled with the theater. Amy and Elizabeth lived closer but work had kept us all busy. But we swore, all of us, to make it work for the ten year high school reunion. Coincidentally, the event was scheduled for my birthday.

A week before, Rachel called Talia for the first time in a month.

"Do you think that it would be okay if she stayed with us?"

"I don't see why not."

"It might be strange... she's my ex, and... you know I still have feelings for her."

"I'm not any more worried than you should be... Rachel and I have history, too."

"Our friends from school... they're special to both of us." Talia wasn't making eye contact, but she was twirling a black lock and licking her lips.

"What do you have in mind?

"I don't think... let's not limit ourselves during this reunion. I want it to be just like it was in high school."

My pulse beat a little quicker. "Tell Rachel that she's more than welcome to stay with us, and don't worry about acting on your feelings. You're my wife. Nothing's going to change that. Let's enjoy our time with our friends."

We spent the rest of the night talking about old times.
