Chapter 4 by Schlock the Monkey Schlock the Monkey

What does the inscription say?

ROTAROTAT MVLIERESVINCENT

"The wheel turns. Women shall triumph," Anna translated automatically, surprised to see a Latin inscription instead of Greek or one of the old Anatolian languages here. And the use of "mulieres" instead of "feminae" was the classical equivalent of saying "dames" instead of "ladies..." not generally respectful language, so linking it with a promise of ultimate triumph was jarring, to say the least. "Please let there be an explanation in here" Anna prayed to a deity she wasn't all sure actually existed... not that covering all her bases hurt.

Anna turned on her flashlight and worked her way into the cave, pleased to see that it was larger than the rather tight entrance implied. She carefully recorded the cave's dimensions and looked around for any signs of disturbed ground that might indicate a spot to look for artifacts. This would be hard, careful work, not the bull in a china shop destruction that the glorified tomb robbers of the last century (or Saturday morning adventure serials in movie theaters back home) practiced. It could be weeks before she found-- what the hell? No! It couldn't POSSIBLY be THAT easy!

What does Anna Jones see that's too good to be true?
