Quit your job

Your sexual appetite satiated, you climb out of bed and tell Julia that you'll be in touch. You grab your clothes and teleport back to the mansion, where you spend the rest of the weekend experimenting with your new rings. So far, flying has been the most fun and you enjoy swooping around the city while invisible. It's so much easier to find and fight crime, though you mostly encounter small time criminals.

When Monday morning arrives, you get dressed and go to work where Laura has set up an entire day of interviews for you to talk about your story on the mayor. By the end of the day, you're exhausted from doing the interviews and walk into Laura's office.

The editor is dictating some notes to Amanda and nods for you to sit down. When she's done, Laura turns to you. "Good job on the story again and with the interviews today. I know it's tedious, but it helps to promote the story and the paper. One of our folks told me that subscriptions and clicks are already significantly up today. You should be proud, John."

"Thanks. I did enjoy doing some of the interviews but..." you say.

"But what?"

"But I think I'm going to quit."

Laura is shocked. "Wait, what? Why? Surely we can come to an agreement. You don't even have to come in to work or file stories like the rest of the reporters."

"It's not that. It's just that I can be doing so much more," you shrug.

Laura doesn't speak for a while and you're about to turn and leave when she stands up. "Why are you wearing so many rings?" she asks, her eyes narrow. It's not an unreasonable question. After all, you're wearing 9 gold rings with jewels on your fingers. It's hard not to get curious.

"I like to accessorize," you state though you can tell Laura's not buying it. She walks around her desk and and you quickly activate the mind control ring.

"Stop," you command, and she stops in her tracks.

"What did you do? Why can't I move?" Laura sounds alarmed. Amanda has also stood up to face you now.

"Laura, when I disappear, you will forget about this exchange, except that we mutually agreed to part ways. Amanda, you will forget about this as well. You two understand?"

Both women nod and you're about to make your escape out of this awkward situation when you remember something.

"One more thing. Laura, once I'm gone, you will promote Amanda to a reporter and she can have my old office." Then, you walk up to Amanda and whisper additional instructions into her ear before vanishing.
