Chapter 68

What's next?

Putting the Discipline in Disciple

Madison Ashford shifted her weight between her feet as she stood in front of Ms. Matthews' desk.

Despite her occasional outbursts, like the infinitely regrettable tirade she launched at her sweet Joey, Madison was a model student. The only times she had ever been called into the principal's office was to take a picture with her latest academic excellence achievement award.

Based on the serious look on Ms. Matthew's face, Madison didn't think she was here to get an award. Ms. Matthews brow was furrowed and her lips were pursed. Whatever was going on, Ms. Matthews clearly thought it was a matter of the gravest urgency.

Which was so unfair, because she had taken Madison and Aynsley away from their Joey at the absolute worst time. They were about to tell him they were ready to be his girlfriends. They had shown him throughout lunch how well they could share. He seemed to be receptive to their advances.

They were so close to getting the best possible thing they could hope for. Joey.

"I know you are confused as to why I called you in here. I want to talk about Mr. Granger" Ms. Matthews said.

Aynsley exchanged a glance with Madison. She was scared, and looking to Madison for help. Madison couldn't blame her. When it came to any of their classmates, Joey would be one of the very first topics Madison would want to talk about. But with a teacher? With the icy Ms. Matthews?

It was clear she had seen them with Joey in the lunch room, but they hadn't broken any rules! Madison had been very careful to make sure all the PDA was within the code of conduct. Even if she _really _wanted to put her hand on Joey's cock. She really hoped it was big. She was still figuring out just how attractive she thought he was. Not that it mattered. A guy like Joey would be the best possible thing for a girl like Madison. She knew that now. It had taken her whole life, but she finally had realized how dumb she'd been to be such a bitch to him. After all those years wasted, after nearly driving Joey away with her cruelty, after all that time she spent working to convince him she wasn't as awful as she used to be, after nearly losing her friendship with Aynsley, the two of them were finally about to be the luckiest girls in the world. They were so close to being with Joey Granger.

And now this prudish ginger harpy was going to keep her from achieving the most important thing in the world?

No. Madison scrunched up her face as she rallied her courage. Ms. Matthews hadn't said anything yet. She couldn't panic. She had to stay cool, and polite. She couldn't assume she knew what this was about. No sense giving away information, until she got some of her own.

"Why do you want to talk to us about Joey?" Madison said. Aynsley's eyes widened, and Madison's own face nearly broke out in panic. Was she being to familiar? Would Ms. Matthews realize she was **** for Joey?

"What are your intentions with him?" Ms. Matthews said.

Madison clasped her hands behind her back and squeezed. Her face turned red, and she wished she could hide underneath her hoodie. Fortunately, she wasn't alone.

"Were we doing something wrong, Ms. Matthews?" Aynsley said.

Madison was so grateful to have her friend with her. She couldn't believe the two of them might be dating the same guy soon. Joey Granger. There was nothing more wonderful in the world than him. Not for someone like her. Thinking of getting to share him with her best friend in the world filled Madison's heart with such profound gratitude.

"Well, the two of you made it very clear that you've found a new interest in him. I pride myself on being a professional, and try not to get caught up in high school politics, but you girls don't run in the same social circles as Joey Granger." Ms. Matthews said.

"That's not fair!" Madison said, unable to keep up her facade of calm any longer. It didn't matter that Ms. Matthews was a teacher, or that she was right. "It's not fair to rub our noses in the fact we were to dumb to realize how lucky we would be to get even a little attention from Joey Granger."

"He's literally the best possible thing that could happen to us." Aynsley said, clasping Madison's hand in her own. The two women feeling comfort in the warmth of their solidarity.

Ms. Matthews just arched a pale red eyebrow, and smirked.

"So, what? You want to be his girlfriends?" She said.

Aynsley let out a nervous giggle. She tried to hide it with a cough as simultaneously tried to tuck her hair behind her ear. For someone so smart, she could be so oblivious.

"I mean, if that's what _Joey _wants, neither of us would say no." Aynsley said.

"We just want what's best for Joey. We know we've been totally gross and foolish chasing after dumb jocks, but Joey is special. We know we don't deserve a second chance, but if Joey wants to give it to us, that's his choice. We won't let an opportunity like that slip through our hands. Not again." Madison said, and punctuated her last line by giving Aynsley's hand a tight squeeze.

"Well I wouldn't have expected Joey to end up with a girl of your social strata this quickly. I hope you've seen the light, but that doesn't mean I can trust you yet. Not when it comes to my Joey." Ms. Matthews said, her expression going from stern shrew to fawning kitten as she practically sighed his name out.

What the actual fuck, Madison thought.

"What the actual fuck?" Madison said.

"Language!" Ms. Matthews said.

"Who do you think you are, and why do you get to decide who dates Joey?!" Aynsley said, and the room went silent.

Ms. Matthews thought for a moment, struggling between discretion and something else. If Madison knew better she would have said, girlish glee. Like Ms. Matthews was a little kid with a big secret they wanted to tell the world. She did a poor job of stifling a big goofy grin, and tried to compose herself.

"It's my job to help Joey succeed. I'm supposed to build him up, nurture his confidence. Help him become a man. He's my entire focus... it's a drea-" Ms. Matthews said, clearly catching herself before saying something even more sus. This woman's whole aura was all over the place.

"It's a very rewarding experience." she finished.

Aynsley looked at Madison.

Madison looked at Aynsley.

Everything this teacher was saying sounded crazy.

Except for one problem.

The more Madison thought about it, the harder it was to say exactly why it was crazy.

Madison and Aynsley had been too dumb to realize Joey was the best possible thing that could happen to them. So clearly someone smart like Ms. Matthews would have already known that. Regular people didn't deserve anyone's unquestioning devotion. No ordinary person should be the sole focus of anyone's life.

Except Joey Granger wasn't like ordinary people.

So was she crazy, or did they know even less about how the world actually worked than they thought?

It was Aynsley's turn to squeeze Madison's hand. Except the woman felt no reassurance.

Was that her own sweat on her palm, or Aynsley's?

Then her fear vanished. There was a simple answer to all of this.

They would ask Joey.
