You held Carrie's hand, as you and her practiced the breathing you'd learned at the Lamaze class.

"You can do this Carrie, c'mon," you told her, attempting to encourage her. David had stayed behind at the restaurant to finish his meal. Carrie was coated in sweat when the doctor came in.

"Okay, we've given you an epidural for the pain. You've got a big boy in there, Carrie. Biggest I've seen in some time. Is this the father?"

"No," Carrie said simply.

"Oh. Is he uhh...the husband?"

"No."

"Oh."

The labor went on for over 24 hours. David showed up about fifteen minutes before the baby was born. She looked relieved to see him, as he told you to go wait at home. David Jr. was 13 pounds and 6 ounces. Carrie sent you a picture of them.
