Pursuit. And another pursuit (S1)

“I’ll distract the monster! Go get her, Claire!” Leon shouted while firing at G2.

“I’m on it! Be careful, Leon!” Claire ran towards the entrance of the tunnel.

But G2 wasn’t going to let go of these fine host for its embryos that easily. It swung the giant claw at Claire, hoped to grab her before she escaped. But a blast from the shotgun blinded its eyeball on the shoulder, and made it screamed painfully.

Another shot from the magnum pierced one of its eyes on the back. G2 knelt on the ground to recover, and Claire successfully got past it and ran into the tunnel to pursue Annette. It seemed that Dustin also stayed behind to deal with the monster.

There was only one way in the tunnel and Annette couldn’t run very fast as she was carrying an **** Sherry with her. The distance between them kept shortening. She used the ID wristband to unlock the elevator, which would lead her to the pharmaceutical factory of Umbrella. There, she could take the tram car and get back to the NEST. But there was still one obstacle before her.

Claire charged at Annette. She believed that she could get her before the door closed. When she was only meters away, however, she was jumped by a feral vampire from the side and was knocked on the floor.

And the elevator door successfully closed.

“No! Sherry!” Claire head-shot the vampire before it could bite, quickly got up and went on punching the door furiously.

“You can’t stop us now...uh...” Annette moaned lustfully while touching the bite marks on her neck, smiling wickedly, “Soon I will embrace my mistress’ gift and Sherry will be presented to her...tasted by her...”

“Damn it! You’re her mother. Get a hold of yourself!” Claire shouted angrily at the woman in the elevator.

“And I shall live happily with my daughter for eternity!” Annette pressed the button on the panel and the elevator slowly went up, “Come find us if you want. I’m sure mistress will grant you the gift, too...”

Claire pressed the buttons too but a female synthetic voice kept telling her “ID wristband required for elevator”. She could only watch Annette disappear with Sherry. What’s worse, the gunshot and all the other noises have attracted too much attention, as she could hear vampire growls echoing in the tunnel. She had **** but to leave.

What should she do next? Maybe she should find an ID wristband around the area and get to the NEST for Sherry. But what’s the point? Deep down she knew that it would be too late.

Perhaps I should get back to Leon...Claire found herself thinking of that one police officer when she wasn’t focusing on other things. Her mind was filled with his smiles and they were so appealing that she couldn’t help smiling herself sometimes.

After a few minutes Claire returned to the U-area but Leon and Dustin weren't there anymore. She followed the tracks of G2 that led all the way to the construction site of the proposed water purification room. What she saw in there was terrifying.

Dustin was sitting by the wall, while Leon was approaching Dustin’s neck.

“Leon!” Claire screamed instinctively and rushed towards them.

Leon seemed like he was knocked out of some trance state and looked up to her with his hungry red eyes and sharp fangs. Claire was shocked to see him like that - again - but when she got a clearer view of the **** and bleeding Dustin, she continued approaching.

Leon fell down on the floor and crawled backwards, quivering in the corner with his head down, like a little child who had done something wrong. Claire felt heartbroken to see Leon suffered, but Dustin needed a medical treatment right now or he might not make it. She picked up the first aid kit on the floor, pulled out the shard on Dustin’s back and dressed him up quickly.

Seconds later Dustin’s breathing became calm and steady, so she finally sighed in relief. She looked to the side and realized that Leon was still sitting in the corner. She grabbed a piece of wet tissue from her pocket and approached him.

Claire smiled warmly while carefully cleaning the bloodstains and dusts on his face. He looked up, just sat there and stared at her blankly. The cute face of his was making her calm, too, like she didn’t need to care about other things anymore and could just treasure this moment with him.

In front of her Leon’s eyes slowly returned to normal.

“Why...” Leon asked confusedly.

“I don’t know...” Claire replied with a sobbing voice.

She helped Leon up and just looked at him quietly. So she got back to Leon, but what’s next? She had no idea.

“I...I think Annette is taking Sherry to the NEST, an Umbrella facility beneath us.” Leon spoke awkwardly. He was the same as ever, too embarrassed to talk about the things between them.

“Yeah. But we don’t have the clearance to get there.” She sighed pessimistically. She tried, but it didn’t work.

“Actually, we do.” Leon showed her the ID wristband, igniting the fire of hope within her, “Let’s get back to the cable car. It can take us there.”

“OK. I’ll carry Dustin. You lead the way.” Claire nodded and immediately went beside Dustin to pick him up.

“Maybe I should...You’re right.” It seemed like Leon was going to suggest something but eventually he didn’t.

Dustin with all his gears was much heavier than she thought. With all her training she could barely carry him on her shoulder and keep walking. She breathed heavily with every step, and managed to finish the trip by herself, without Leon’s help.

The door of the cable car reacted to the ID wristband and automatically opened. Leon got in first to check everything, while Claire carried the **** Dustin to the bench.

When Leon pulled the lever to start the cable car, Claire was standing next to the bench, gasping for air.

“This tram is bound for NEST. Do not exit until the final destination.” With the female synthetic voice on the broadcast and a low humming sound from the engine, the car shook slightly and slowly went deeper down, headed into the darkness.

Nothing good is going to happen down there in the NEST. This could be the last chance to show my feelings to him, she thought. She took a deep breath and carefully walked to Leon’s side.

“We need to talk.” She spoke calmly.

“O-OK...” Leon looked at her but didn’t dare to look into her eyes.

“How did this...happen?” Claire softly caressed Leon’s cheek, then his lips, then above his upper lip. She touched something hard behind his lips, and he started to quiver. Are these...his fangs? They are...exquisite...

“I think Ada - the FBI agent I told you about - is a vampire. She bit me...and turned me.” Leon instinctively stepped back, “I’m sorry...”

“For what? It wasn’t yourself back then.” With Leon backing up one step, Claire took one step forward.

“I wasn’t myself anymore. I’m a bloodsucking monster!” Leon shook his head and cried out angrily, but that wouldn’t change anything, “When this is over, when you and Sherry are safe, I’m gonna end myself. I’m not going to live like this.”

“No!” Claire anxiously objected, “You’re not like those things. You can control yourself! Otherwise Dustin and I would be dead by now!”

“I still thirst for blood! I don’t want to hurt people!” Leon kept denying himself, “And the people I bite could be infected too and become monsters...I can’t live with that!”

“But I did not turn! That proves that you’re different from those vampires infected with the Umbrella virus, right?” Claire smiled, “It’s OK to be afraid. But together we can beat this, too.”

He’s suffering. I know what he needs, and I know what I want...With her face mildly blushed, Claire took off the red jacket and left herself in a black tank top, revealing her fine skin.

“What-What are you doing?” Leon tried to look away but couldn’t. He stared at Claire’s beautiful neck and swallowed.

“You’re still thirsty, aren’t you? You may hurt Sherry when we find her. Here, take my blood.” Claire tilted her head to the side and showed her neck to him, “In the police station, you promised me that we’ll get through this, remember?”

“No...I...Ah!” Leon was still fighting against his own desires, but his eyes has turned red and the fangs already slid down, “I...can’t...”

There, he’s still the same cute police officer that saved her from all kinds of threats tonight. He’s young and passionate, but will always be too shy to act. Claire smiled and decide to pursue her own feelings. She stepped up firmly, caressed his face and kissed him. Before he realized what happened, Claire invaded his mouth with her tongue and deliberately cut it with his fangs.

“I...I’m...” Leon looked at her, embarrassed.

“Just remember your promise, and get back to me, OK?” Claire took his hand and held it tightly.

“I promised.” And he pulled her closer to hug her. She smiled in relief when she gently leaned her head on his chest. She wanted nothing more.
