Promises to keep

Liz had come off shift before I arrived at the sex shop. Walking in I with gave Sam a wave.

“Hi Sam” I said as I came in. “Liz borrowed my c-“

Sam passed my denim jacket over and said “Liz told me.” Then “She also said she’d be by later tonight.”

I thanked her and slipped the jacket on. Checking one pocket there were wrappers from one of the burger joints in the mall. These I threw into the trash as I was walking out.

I found Chantal’s phone in the inside pocket. When I pulled it out I saw Liz had turned it off, or maybe the battery ran out.

I glanced at my watch and hurried.

I managed to Just get into the Silent Samurai in time to see Jane look at her watch then up at me. “You got lucky mister” she says with a hint of seriousness to it.

We’re seated at a little half-booth with sliding curtains that are reminiscent of rice paper walls but aren’t quite convincing themselves of it.

We sit down and look at the menus “I’m starving” Jane announces, and we discuss what we’re going to grab. Eventually we agree to order a bunch of different things and share them all.

When the server comes to take drinks Jane orders Sake and glances at me “You like Sake?” I tell her I do. “Let’s just grab the bigger bottle then” she announces.

We throw in our food order. I let Jane do the ordering as her pronunciation is far better than mine.

It’s only when the server leaves that I register how Jane is dressed.

She’s done something with her hair, she’s wearing a really nice looking sweater that seems to hug her curves perfectly - which I now realize are utterly fantastic..

I catch a whiff of vanilla perfume and it hits me like a brick to the head.

“Yep” She says, registering my look of recognition . “This sir, is a date.”
