Chapter 59 by TumblingMice TumblingMice

What changes do you make on day 2 of renovating?

Remodeling: angels and daemons

For the first time since you turned the tables on Zalreanne, you awake still under the covers. "Purple slut say no today, boss guy, she all quiet and mopey. Summat about 'stupid player' and 'go away.'" Rishukan walks away after explaining the situation. You totally expected this to happen time to time, but even if it normally would bother you the floating popup in front of you seizes your attention.

Otherworldly Attention
Your domain has caught the attention of outsiders both above and below. Archfiends and archangels use you as a pawn in their schemes while lesser beings seek to gain power in your service.
Choose Underlings: Chaste Defenders (Angelic), Fierce Avengers (Angelic), Ice Daemons (Daemonic), Vengeful Outcasts (Angelic + Daemonic)
Choose Offering: Information, enchanted whip (fury), enchanted staff (caster)

Vengeful outcasts sounds perfect: fitting for the overall daemonic theme for your dungeon, still somewhat angelic, and appropriate given two of your champions are fallen angels as well. As for the offering, you finally feel under absolutely no pressure to pick information. Seeking things out is currently a distant second priority to resolving the threats made against you, and those threats are concrete enough that you don't really see the purpose of learning more about them just yet. Instead, you pick the enchanted whip: you have two fallen angels whose feats make explicit reference to wielding whips, and you haven't gotten either of them anything since they gave themselves to you and your cause.

Flame Tongue
This long red leather whip was flayed from the skin of a captive pit fiend. It was thought lost after the enchanter's son was hunted down and killed by other daemons in retribution fifty years later.
Effects
Fire Resistance – The bearer does not feel mundane heat below 100 degrees Celsius, and gains 50% resistance to magical fire damage.
Flaming – This whip can ignite or extinguish itself at will, dealing additional fire damage to anyone other than the wielder who touches it.

You get up and head over to Sera's room. She's typically a later riser than the others, and sure enough she's still asleep when you arrive, her generous bosom gently rising and falling as she lays splayed out over her dark wings, her red hair fanned out underneath her. You lie down beside her and poke her cheek and she stirs in response.

"Uhh, wha, who, unnn, five more minutes..." She blinks then holds her arm over her eyes to shield herself from the light seeping in from the nearby window.

"Good morning, pet. I have something for you." You fold the whip and hold it out to her.

"Huh, what?" She takes the whip and turns it over in her hand. "Oh, thank you master, it's uh... very pretty?" She gives it a test flick and it bursts into flame, setting a small fire at the bottom of the bed. "Oops! I'll have to be careful." She extinguishes the fire with her foot. "No more handing me weapons first thing in the morning. I'll have to punish you." She swings herself on top of you and giggles before bringing her face down to yours.

Half an hour later and thoroughly satisfied, the two of get you reluctantly get up to start your work for the day. Ari, Mariel, Tlax, Rishu, and Baelzann join you outside: you see no need to summon your underlings this time seeing as the last dungeon floor creation was relatively uneventful.

First, you open up the level editor to see that most of the settings on the level you created yesterday can still be changed freely: while changing the theme costs as much as rebuilding the level from scratch, all the other changes only cost a small fee to remove changes and nothing to add them. As a result, it seems like as long as you pick the themes and main underlings off the bat, you're relatively free to leave the rest for later if you run out of resources. That worry out of the way, you open the designer for a new level and pick fallen ones as the main underling type.

Level Designer: Theme
Mountain Camp – A rocky cliffside camp for monstrous creatures.
Overrun Village – A settlement under **** by daemonic forces.
Warrens – A cave system infested with daemonic tribes.

The other options are interesting, but you decide to stick with your underground theme and pick the warrens: they also fit the most appropriately for many of the other underlings you hope to move into this area.

New Summoning Options Unlocked
Fallen Elder: Fallen ones trained in the mystic arts, able to wield fire magic and enhance their comrades. Must be assigned to a level with Fallen Ones.
Hellhound: A doglike daemon especially trained to hunt those touched by holy power. Must be assigned to a level with Fallen Ones.
Fallen Brute (Elite): Huge daemons reminiscent of ogres who can wield greatclubs and polearms as one-handed weapons and are devastating in melee. Must be assigned to a level with Fallen Ones.

All of these options look excellent and on-theme. You'll have to revisit them later, although there's plenty of other things you want to spend your limited mana on and you have plenty of assorted monsters to staff this level in the mean time. For now, you assign your shappazus, slimugons, and ssac'rul to the zone. The mushroom spores natural feature apparently suffuses the entire zone with a slight negative debuff to adventurers, and you mix a few traps into the place and put an enchanted weapon rack and a treasure chest hidden in out-of-the-way parts of the main fallen village. Finally, you place both the ore vein and the gem vein in the caverns: the theme works nicely and you have enough extra that occasional interruptions due to adventurer raids are unlikely to be a serious issue.

"Rishukan, how would you like to be the boss of the new fallen encampment?"

"If mostest red guy want me to boss camp, I boss camp. But who guard purple elf slut?"

"Mariel or Seramiel can take care of that, don't worry about it. So is that a yes then?"

"Yes, red guy! I boss fallen for real again!"

Assign Level Boss
Lieutenant: Rishukan (fallen one)
Scenario: Tribal chieftain: the boss is accompanied by a large number of ordinary minions, and minions are boosted in the boss's presence.
Confirm?
Yes (500 fame)/No

Rishukan disappears when you confirm, whisked off to her new lair, and you immediately get to work on the last new level, choosing your new fallen angels as the main minion type.

Level Designer: Theme
Initiation Dungeon – Angels are brought to this dungeon to be inducted into the ranks of the daemons.
Marble Halls – This angelic bastion appears to be untouched by daemonic influence.
Paradise Lost – This angelic bastion appears to be undergoing a daemonic invasion.

Marble halls is of no interest to you: it doesn't really fit the minions, presumably pulling you more in the direction of more angelic underlings. Suddenly, your thoughts are interrupted by a feminine voice beside you.

"Ooh, what about paradise lost!" Mariel, who's been spacing out thus far, suddenly seems to take interest in what you're doing.

"Really? I was thinking initiation dungeon. It fits more with what we have so far and it makes me think of you." You caress her side for emphasis.

"Don't you think that more of the same is kind of boring? Besides, we can remind you about ourselves whenever you need," Seramiel wraps her arms around your waist and presses her bosom into your back. You're a bit surprised that the two sisters are in agreement: it seems like they're often of opposite minds when it comes to this sort of thing.

"Right! And as far as I can tell these are sorted into 'angelic,' 'daemonic,' and 'mixed' themes. Wouldn't it make sense to stick with what you picked for your minions in the first place?" With Ari's vote of support you're now completely outnumbered.

"And remember, every time you get new summon options. Everything you've picked has given you more daemons so far. Don't you want to make sure you have the option to pick some more angels?" Mariel's argument makes sense, so you submit to the pressure of your harem and pick the mixed option.

New Summoning Options Unlocked
Tiefling: these humanoids are the offspring of angels and humans who have been corrupted by daemonic influence. Their angelic blood allows them to enter the divine realm easily, making them ideal shock troops.
Wrathful Seraph: these magic-wielding angels have allowed their despair at the home's invasion turn them to endless rage, twisting them into underlings that fuel that very invasion. Exclusive to Paradise Lost dungeon theme.
Faith Construct (Elite): these huge golems serve as elite defenders of angelic grounds, but like any other divine creation they are susceptible to daemonic corruption. Exclusive to Paradise Lost dungeon theme.

As before, the options look neat, although it's becoming clear that the summon options fit into some fairly consistent archetypes: not that that's necessarily a bad thing. If nothing else, the predictability will let you use the underling and theme choice to expand upon underling types that you like or find effective. For now, you design a small level with a generous amount of treasure and no other features and designate the imps as additional underlings there. You reorganize the floors so that the caves come first, the cult second, and this new level last. Finally, you turn to your last lieutenant.

"Baelzann—"

"Yes bossman?" He rushes to get the words out, cutting you off in the process and clearly eager.

"How would you like to be the leader of the daemonic invasion on this level? It would give you the chance to get **** on some of the adventurers who have killed you throughout the years. Although I'll miss your booooooooooss!"

"It would be my's honour, boss." The imp wipes a tear from his eye. Have you ever even seen an imp cry before? No matter. You designate him as the level boss and confirm for the third time in the past two days.

Assign Level Boss
Lieutenant: Baelzann (greater imp)
Scenario: Aloof general: the boss prefers to direct their underlings from afar, engaging in battle alone only when all other options have been exhausted.
Confirm?
Yes (500 fame)/No

With that final confirmation, you've spent 8,000 fame today, the base cost of a level having increased by 1,000 each time. With that done, you spend the rest of the mana you can spare to summon tieflings and constructs for the angelic level. The rest of the mana is already earmarked, so you'll have to wait for your reserves to replenish before you revisit the levels.

All in all, you can't complain about the day's progress. You've slipped out of your laziness surprisingly easily now that a threat has materialized and now have all of your minions arranged in three proper dungeon levels, not counting the fourth level which serves only as your living quarters. The additional treasure and accessibility of the dungeon features will hopefully bring some more adventurers to your lair to give you something resembling a reliable source of fame.

Looking for any last things to do as you finish off your work for the day, you notice that your building menu has a new featured building which requires at least three dungeon levels as a prerequisite. The Scrying Pool, as it's called, apparently lets you monitor adventurers going through your dungeon from far away, so you place it in your throne room. An effective, if somewhat less entertaining, replacement for Baelzann's messenger duty. Letting go of your habit of leading from the front lines feels a bit strange, but you had to start doing it sooner or later.

"Excellent work everyone, let's call it a day here. I'll see you all tonight. Mariel, Seramiel, if you could decide on who's going to watch our once-squatter? Tlax, could you come with me? I have something I'd like to show you." The rest of your champions go their separate ways, while Tlax slithers beside you in the direction of the mage tower at the heart of your lair.

What do you need the naga for?
