Battle in the clearing

You glance at Daigo. “I don’t suppose you can transform here?”

Daigo shakes his head. “I’d be as dangerous to you as them in this tight of a space. Don’t worry, I have other options. You don’t live hundreds of years without learning other forms.”

With that, he changes. Growing, he becomes a somewhat humanoid draconic figure, nearly twelve feet tall. With a dragon’s head, scales, and claws, he’s an intimidating sight.

You look to the woods. It appears there’s dozens of demons approaching, making you a bit nervous. “Ruka, stay between us, we’ll protect you.”

“No.”

The barely controlled rage in her voice makes you look as the dryad strides past you. Normally happy and energetic, much like her best friend Maya, the change in her makes you pause in shock. Her lips are set in a hard line, her shoulders forward as if walking into a wind, and her eyes…the green glow is so bright as to be almost white. Ruka lifts a hand, crackling with green lightning, and points at the nearest demon.

A thorned vine as thick as your leg bursts from the ground, impaling the demon through the chest. She waves her hand, and the thorns explode off, piercing many nearby demons, in some cases pinning them to trees. Ruka snarls as she summons more vines, wreaking incredible carnage. She seems to be the wrath of nature personified.

You hear a roar, an turn to see Daigo lift a demon by its throat, ramming his claws into its chest. He tears his claws down in a welter of demonic gore, and hurls the eviscerated corpse at the next demon. The crack of the impact is horrific, and neither will rise again, as they ragdoll into the trees. Daigo turns and inhales, then breathes a gout of flame over several approaching demons, the magical dragonfire reducing them to ash.

Meanwhile, you intercept a demon trying to get behind Ruka. Your blade flashing in the light of the clearing, you cleave it’s skull in a powerful chop, dropping it instantly. You raise a hand and paralyze the next, following your spell with a decapitating blow from your sword.

The battle is over in minutes. Demons and pieces of demons litter the floor, and you look to be sure that your companions are unharmed. Daigo returns to human form, nodding at you. Ruka, meanwhile, is still breathing heavily. Her eyes still glow fiercely, and you see smoke coming from her fingers. She points into the woods, and growls a word.
