What's next?

The lights come back on

Amy let out the world's shortest, cutest squeal, before biting her lip. The last thing she wanted to do was squeal in front of Rosa. She didn't even want Rosa to know she was able to squeal. The tough-as-nails cops would never let her forget it.

She glanced back over her shoulder, already nervous, expecting to see Rosa smirk at her. They might be good friends, but there was still something about the way Rosa teased her that always got on her nerves. Had she been caught in the act of squealing? She sighed in relief, as she realised she'd gotten away with it.

Then, her muscles tensed.

Where was Rosa?

"Rosa?" she called out. The stacks stretching off in every direction muffled the echoes of her voice. "Rosa? Where did you go?"

Nothing but silence.

"Rosa? This isn't funny!"

Amy felt her skin crawl. Nothing but books, carpet and dust, as far as the eye could see. No Rosa anywhere to be found.

It was almost... spooky.

Which was exactly how the librarian had described it. A strange, spectral presence in the library, knocking books off carts, disturbing the patrons and playing practical jokes on the staff. Invisible, yet present. Something that sounded very much like... a ghost.

Amy shivered.

She hated ghosts. She hated the idea of them. Slinking around in the dead of night, walking through walls, watching you while you slept... it creeped her out. She could handle the idea of a vampire or a werewolf, but how would you even begin to fight a ghost? They made her feel so... helpless.

Good thing they weren't real.

She was about to start methodically scouring the building for Rosa when the lights went out again.
