Chapter 58

Do you make it back to the road before the mud gets worse?
Nope!
As you continue down the path, the rain begins to downpour, Whiterun was having trouble maintaining a steady pace, Nacius glanced down at the ground to look at the mud.
"Damn it!" Nacius yells.
You look down at the mud, you noticed Whiteruns ankles were filthy, caked in mud, it looked like he was having trouble staying balanced.
"This mud is slippery, Whiterun doesn't do great in mud!" Nacius says.
"Should we continue on foot?" You ask.
"Maybe, we aren't too far from the main road... You willing?" Nacius asks.
While walking through the apparently slippery mud in this downpour does not sound at all fun to you, it was better than running the risk of injuring the horse, or worse.
"Of course!" You answer.
Nacius carefully slides off of Whiterun, being careful not to slip in the mud below, once he gets his bearings, he reaches up to you and helps you down. Once you hit the ground, you can feel it, you needed a moment to balance yourself, the constant downpour wasn't helping at all.
"Sanna can see why you are not too fond of the rain out here! It is miserable!" You say.
"Heh! You don't say!" Nacius replies.
You really should own a pair of boots by now, these sandals are not meant for the mud, you felt the mud slip into your sandals and made your feet feel uncomfortable.
"Ugh, moons, Sanna needs to buy a pair of boots after this, these sandals are not meant for mud!" You tell Nacius.
"Hang onto Whiterun for balance, I'll lead him." Nacius tells you, you grab onto Whiterun's saddle and Nacius grabs the lead and begins slowly walking, he was having a considerably easier time walking through this mud than you were, he had proper boots afterall. You kept sliding off to the left, one time even sliding onto your knee, completely covering your ankle in mud.
"All good back there?" Nacius asks.
"As good as Sanna can manage, Khajiit are not made for this mud!" You respond.
You can hear Nacius laugh, despite the sound of the constant downpour.
"Don't worry, were almost there, the rest of this is going to be a slog though!" He says.
For the first time in a long while, you felt cold, your thin clothing did little to nothing to stop the cold of the rain from chilling you, your fur was soaked, your clothes were soaked, luckily however, you picked a dark blue shirt today, you would've died of embarrassment if you were out here in a white shirt.
Amidst you trying to stay balanced you chuckled.
"Hey, at least Sanna didn't wear her white shirt today, eh?" You jokingly ask.
"Hey, it's not like anyone else comes out here too often, it'd only be me and you out here most likely!" He answers.
You took a moment to analyze Nacius, like you, his clothes were drenched, his black shirt was sticking to his back, showing every muscle on his back, his hair was dripping wet, sometimes sticking to the back of his neck and his forehead, making him shake it off.
"You doing okay up there love?" You ask.
"Yup, just cold!" He responds.
Moons, if you felt cold, how cold was he feeling? You had fur, he didn't
"Sanna is feeling cold, she can't imagine how cold your feeling right now!" You tell him.
Nacius looks back at you and holds his arm up, he was shivering pretty bad.
"The bath can wait when we get back, I want to sit in front of the hearth for a loooooong while!" He says.
"Sanna is still just going to hop straight into the tub, feel free to join her whenever, she is going to be in there for a long while!" You say.
"Oh I plan on it."
The two of you continue trudging through the mud, it was almost like the gods had decided to pour buckets of water all over the West Weald. You lost your footing for a moment and slipped, falling to your side.
"Argh! Damn!" You yell, pushing yourself up.
"You okay! Hurt?" Nacius asks, walking over to your side.
"Nope, just muddy and wet." You say, getting yourself back to your feet.
Your side was covered in mud, it wasn't helping with the cold you were feeling.
"Let's keep moving, Sanna will be fine." You tell Nacius.
Nacius takes Whiteruns lead once again and the three of you continue, you kept shaking your arm, attempting to get as much mud as you could off of it, but some of it was almost soaked in, your once orange fur now a light shade of brown.
"Sanna is going to take time actually bathing this time, this mud is not good for her fur." You say.
Nacius chuckles.
"Brown looks good on you." He jokes.
"Quiet! You can just wash mud right off of your skin, Sanna has to scrub this out of her fur, it isn't fun!" You retort.
"Relax, just pulling your leg, I can help you wash it out if you want." He offers.
"Don't worry about it, take your time warming up at the hearth." You tell him.
The two of you continue in silence, you look down at the ground, trying to maintain balance to avoid another tumble when suddenly you hear Nacius call for you.
"There it is!" He yells, pointing ahead.
You look up and see the road just off in the distance, and the best part, no mud!
"Thank the moons, Sanna's feet are starting to hurt from all this damned mud." You say.
"You sure you'll be able to wash all that stuff out? Looks really soaked in there." Nacius asks.
"It's a tedious job, but it should come out, Sanna has spilt dye on her fur once, that was terrible." You reply.
"How in Oblivion did that happen?" Nacius asks, chuckling to himself.
"Sanna was fooling around the marketplace as a child, she bumped into a shelf that had dye on it and well, a whooole lot of blue and yellow dye covered me." You say.
Nacuis lets out a hardy laugh, you chuckle alongside him.
"Do your people dye their fur at all?" Nacius asks.
"Sanna would be surprised if some Khajiit don't, she has never seen any Khajiit dye their fur other than a few face paints , but she doesn't doubt that there are a few out there who go crazy with the hair dye." You answer.
As you finish talking the two of you finally get back on the main road, you hear Nacius let out a sarcastic chuckle and watch him point towards the foot path.
"Haha! Damn you mud!" He yells.
You take a moment to look down at yourself, your clothes were stained brown and embarrassingly clung to your form, your fur was filthy, your hair was a mess, your feet hurt, overall, you felt like garbage.
"Let's get home, Sanna needs to get out of these disgusting clothes!" You say.
"Yup, let's get going." Nacius says, hopping up onto Whiterun, reaching a hand out to pull you up.
You take his hand and climb up on the back of the horse, once the two of you got adjusted, you were off!
