Chapter 3
by TheSpectator
Any stops before work?
Straight to work. I need a distraction.
You twist the key and put the car in reverse to get out of the driveway. Fuck everything else and FUCK Gabe. You needed some stupid workload to distract you from your home life. Besides, Emily will be there today too. You could talk to her and get caught up on the gossip filtering around the store!
...
...
When you pull up to the parking space, you spot Emily's car first. Of course, you don't spot your vehicle, but you suppose that might not be a terrible thing. You didn't want to blow up the earth because you met yourself while being inside of a host body. Would that happen? As soon as you put your car in park, you sigh. "God, I would totally feel like suuch a klutz if I blew up the world."
With that thought in mind, you went inside and clocked in, and started to work. At first, you wanted to drag your feet, but for some reason, your body didn’t allow you. You actually wanted to do your absolute best. You knew for a fact that wasn’t coming from your side of your brain: it was Cindy's.
The morning was relatively slow, which meant you were able to dial in on your workload without distractions. Between your knowledge of the store and Cindy’s will, you were able to knock out most of the tasks on hand before you ran into Emily. A flutter of butterflies and happy emotions came filtering through your mind.
“Heeeey, girl!!” Your voice came out chipper, and your posture straightened. You probably would have blushed if this reaction to Emily hadn’t felt so natural.
Emily replied with a smile and shifted her hips. “Hi! Good morning!!”
You giggled and then complimented her “poppy” attitude. Maybe if you had your eyes, you wouldn’t have noticed it, but Cindy’s mind thought she seemed a little different. You wasted no time trying to get personal with her. “What’s wrong?”
A laugh left Emily’s lungs. She usually **** a laugh like that one whenever she thought there was tension. She brushed her hair back behind her ear and then looked down. “Oh, nothing really wrong. Just boyfriend things, you know?”
You crossed your arms. “You seem to be getting more of them lately…” you didn’t know yourself, but Cindy’s brain had enough of its original host to add something to the conversation. “What was it this time?”
This time? You shouldn’t be happy to hear about the chinks in their relationship, but you were.
Emily’s mouth became lopsided; suddenly, nothing was funny. “Hey, I don’t really feel like talking about that right now. But, umm, I know you weren’t going to go to the party tonight, but do you think you would like…try?”
“I thought you didn’t want to go either.” You chased her with. Emily **** a giggle and then brushed back her hair again.
“I, well, I changed my mind.”
You knit your brows and shake your head. You knew exactly what she meant. “Are you sure someone else didn’t change it for you?”
“What do you mean? Who would do that?”
You roll your eyes. Then you figure something else to say. “You…deserve sooo much better! Isn’t there someone else you know that’s single and ready to mingle~??”
“No.” Emily replied bluntly.
“What about Klaus? He’s kind of cute, isn’t he? And plus, you both would be totally a-DORBS together.”
“I think you liked him? I think you two would be pretty cute together!” She said gleefully in response.
No flutter or shyness is coming from Cindy’s portion of the mind. “Nope. He isn’t my type. Plus, I’ve got too much home trouble to get anyone else involved.”
Words came out of your mind in order, but as soon as Emily asked what kind of home troubles Cindy had, you noticed your brain went into “defensive mode” and dodged anything involving her brothers, mother, and of course her step-dad, Gabe.
You didn’t really talk about anything important until you took your lunch together. You drove, and Emily offered to pay. If you were in your own body, you would have told her that her money was not worth anything, but you had a feeling Cindy was fairly wealthy.
While you ate, Emily again asked if you were going to the party later that day. You chewed and swallowed, thinking about whether you wanted to go or not…
Are you gonna go to the party or do you have something else in mind?
