Chapter 57 by TheSpectator TheSpectator

Does anything happen to you when you cross the street?

I cross the street just fine, but I run into some company...

You cross the street without fault...at first.

As soon as you make it to the other side, a woman with long brown hair and sparkling green eyes strolls next to you. “Soldier boy, why don’t you take a break?”

Her hands pluck at your webbing and your clothes. Despite the cold that is enveloping you, you feel a rush of heat go over your face. “Get away from me,” you say. "I don't have time for this."

The girl smirks at you confusingly. “That’s not exactly what I was expecting…” Behind the girl is a building. Just like the others, it's wooden and tall, well-lit from the inside. There's a sign near the entrance that flashes pink and blue. You can easily read what the sign is blinking... Pick N' Dicks.

You can see Kenji across the street, Flora too, as they watch you. You trace your gaze to what you are assuming to be, at least, a prostitute. “We’re under lockdown, and you dare to come to me while I’m patrolling? Don’t you know any better?”

“Wouldn’t be anything new,” she replied. “Usually, this is the greatest time to disappear for a few minutes...few hours.”

You grunt. “This is serious, lady.”

“I haven’t seen him before,” another woman comes out, striding over and looking you up and down. “Which part of the Heights area did you come from?”

“Why do I need to tell you anything?” You try dodging the question, but she insists you answer now. Not. Good.

“Along with the gates,” you tell her. “Near the main entrance.”

“Burning Tree?” The new girl asks.

“That’s the one.” you chase her.

“That’s nowhere near the main entrance…” the original girl mutters, now backing away. “Who are you?”

You slowly reached for your pistol as the two girls crowded each other. This was going downhill REALLY fast. “Honestly,” you begin. “I’m just a weary traveler looking for some fun.”

One of them gasps. “A Salesman?”

The way she said it told you that “salesman” was more than just a simple title. You gambled again. “Ah, you caught me.” You shrugged.

“Figured with all this crazy shit going on, I would be able to slip in out of town while all the guards are running about.” You say, working your best smile.

“How...how much will you pay?” The original girl asks, brushing back her brown hair.

“You oughta be paying me,” you smirk. “A closed-out society like yours doesn’t get someone as experienced as me all the time.”

While the first girl blushes, the other steps up. “The men around here do have experience. You either pay upfront now or leave! Otherwise, I’m going to start making a scene and get YOU arrested.”

Regardless of her knowing the truth of your actual position or not didn’t matter to you - her threat was much more significant than she knew, so you caved in. “Alright, alright.”

She smirked. “Pay here. Right now.”

You unravel a pouch from your hip and dig out a roll of twenties. You aren’t sure how much that bundle was worth, but you tossed it at them anyway. The first girl lunged for it, snatching it mid-air.

“Hey!” The second girl yelled, prompting a giggle from the first.

“I thought you had cat-like reflexes, Sally.” The brunette scoffed.

Sally narrows her gaze at the brunette and snapped a quick and harsh retort. "Shuddup, Thora!" She used her name like it was an insult of it's own.

Thora smiles anyway, but she doesn’t say anything. “Oh, pish poss, Sally.” Thora drags her eyes back to you. “We should honor the deal. Mr...?”

Keeping her eyes on you, she regards you. You realize she’s asking for your name. “Visser you tell her.”

She knits her brows and then playfully smiles. “We’d like to know your full name, handsome~.”

Thora tilts her head, winking at you as she retains her smile. Sally warms up and forces a smile too. “I can’t have my name become the subject of gossip when I get done with you.”

Thora’s smile widens. “You’re confident!”

“I always am.” You say, feeling only somewhat confident. “You both gonna lead the way?”

Sally strides close to Thora. “Well, of course, we will. But first, we’ll need to make some preparations.” She looks at you up and down. “You’re not diseased or anything, right?”

“No.” You say. “I’m very particular about my girls. If they smell like fish, they don’t get the dick.”

Thora has to stifle her laugh. It’s hard to tell what Sally thinks because she turned her back to you before you were able to get a good enough look at her. After controlling her fit, Thora wipes a lone tear from her cheek and tells you to them a few minutes before coming in to join them. She quickly catches up with Sally. The neon light still flashing between it's two colors. Kenji joins you. Flora joins you shortly after.

"What'd you do to get rid of those two?" Kenji inquires.

"Promised them a good time," you look at Flora briefly, she's giving you a disgusted stare. "Ah, they're expecting me to go inside."

"Don't think about it." Kenji warned.

"They threatened to get the guards if I keep them occupied." You chase.

Kenji shakes his head. "Doesn't matter. If we're quick about it, they'll expect nothing. Let's go."

As he turns to leads you further down towards the stone building, you can't help but feel that maybe you SHOULD keep them occupied, but you aren't sure which head is telling you to do that exactly...

What are you going to do?
