Chapter 666 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Speak with a goddess.

She leads your group to her tree. There, everyone takes a seat in the grass. It's soft and comfortable. The scent of the flowers is relaxing. She remains up with her arms crossed, so you stare up her mostly naked figure as she observes the group one person at a time. She really is a sort of beautiful behind the mortal realm. With her glowing hair and echoing voice, you worry the wrong word could doom you all, even if she seems to be kind at the moment. And your party isn't exactly known for always saying the right thing.

"As said before, I am the mother of all catfolk, Feli. A goddess if that's what you wish to call me. I wouldn't normally allow visitors into my domain so casually, but I haven't seen anyone for a very long time, and you're an interesting bunch to say the least. Especially you, Kyle Warren. My Kitty Sense has never been so perplexed by someone before me."

She doesn't seem upset about the Demon King thing. I guess she did say she can sense our intentions.

Snow bows her head. "You truly are the one that created my entire race. That means I owe you my life."

"You can think about it any way you'd like, but I didn't create the catfolk to obey my every command. I did lead them for some time, but that was before... Ah, it was a long time ago. It matters little now, besides lingering hatred, but there's nothing I can do about that. I've made my peace."

You look to the item hanging from the tree. It is a painting. You can see that it's some sort of bunnyfolk you don't recognize, but she's incredibly beautiful. "Who's that?" you ask.

Feli turns her eyes to the painting, and then you see pink suddenly appear in her cheeks. "Nobody," she mutters.

Did the goddess just get embarrassed? "You have it hanging over your bed, so I figured--"

"I said nobody!" A wave of energy emits from her person and causes you to shudder, but now she appears flustered. "It's just someone I knew long ago."

"You must like her if you keep a painting of her right there," Taiga says.

Feli lets out a long, deep sigh. She glances to the side, staring into space. "I didn't mean to lose my composure. If you must know, it's a painting of my old friend Lepo, mother of all bunnyfolk. She retreated to a realm of her own, though she isn't here. I haven't seen her since--" She purses her lips. "We had a disagreement."

Yet another moment of silence. Though this time, it's interrupted by Yin. She stands up with a hand clutched to her chest. Her eyes practically sparkle with a sudden passion, and she speaks with excitement, though she does so in a serious tone. "And you left everything at a disagreement?"

"Excuse me, but please don't raise your voice around me."

"I can see it in your eyes, my goddess. Excuse my rudeness, but I can't just sit by while you live here in sadness and regret. If you love her, you have to tell her... Trust me. It's really hard to express your feelings properly, but you'll never forgive yourself if you fail to tell them before it's too late."

"... Huh? P-Pardon me, but you're not the one with Kitty Sense, and--" She begins stumbling over her own words, and red fills her face. Finally she crosses her arms and turns away with a huff. She's defeated, and by Yin no less.

"I'm sorry, my goddess, but can you tell us what happened?" asks Snow. "I only know of the stories passed down over generations. That back before the Empire of Tivera, the land was filled with nomadic tribes of bunnyfolk and catfolk. Both sides worshipped their creators, and followed their wisdom. But then one day, the bunnyfolk attacked. Their goddess betrayed ours--you--and then we began fighting over land and resources. We might still be doing so if humans settlements didn't start to spread."

"That isn't quite true," Feli speaks softly. She looks deep in thought. "And I believe that if you were to ask the other side, their story would be the same."

I still can't get over that I'm looking at the original catfolk. Somehow, she looks exactly how I thought. Beautiful, radiant, fluffy, tribal markings. A spirit of the wilds. I know the two races are often in conflict with each other, and I assumed it was some sort of political disagreement like a war, but I have no idea the actual story. It sounds like I was close though.

She continues. "Sit comfortably and I'll share with you a story. One that happened hundreds of years in the past. Consider yourself honoured to hear such a tale, especially from one such as myself, but something has awakened within me today. Something stirs within my heart. Are you ready? Then listen. It started in a manner similar to what was previously said. Both sides were nomadic. They lived off the land, roaming the emerald fields between both ranges of the Pecho Peaks. The land you now know as Tivera."
