You've never been a fighter. You don't see yourself as a fighter. But maybe you should be more of one.

Jackie can see you thinking and decides to add one more thought of her own. "Learning to defend yourself isn't just about beating other people up. It's about recognizing dangerous situations before they escalate. Those who learn to fight often end up getting in fights less often than those who don't."

"That doesn't make sense."

"Actually it does. Lots of guys have testosterone issues. They feel like they have something to prove. So they get themselves into situations where they have to fight in hopes of proving something to themselves. And then there are guys who are so oblivious that they just walk into dangerous situations. Did you see the guys who attacked you before they attacked?"

"Uh, yeah. We talked."

"If I'd trained you, you would have recognized that they were about to attack before they did... and you might have been able to get away."

Getting away without getting hurt sounded good.

"Plus... well, guys who can handle themselves are sexy. Not to mention learning to fight can be pretty sexy itself."

You're not so sure how sexy standing on the back of a rowboat improving your balance or painting a fence can be but if it's sexy to Jackie, that's good enough for you.

"Fine," you say. "I'm good. When do we start?"
