Kali’s wrath

Kali has clearly just rushed out from a workout, wearing only bike shorts and a sports bra, but somehow this only makes her more intimidating. She walks forward, strange white fire flaring around her, looking like some kind of avenging angel. Broken glass melts as she passes, and Rex looks at her in confusion.

“What the fuck are you?!”

You see Kali’s glowing golden eyes narrow. “You always were stupid, Rex. My father’s little watchdog doesn’t recognize his charge anymore? And now you come here, threatening my family? How DARE you!”

With that, and before Rex can react, she thrusts a fist towards him. A beam of fiery white light lances towards him, and he is engulfed in those same white flames. He doesn’t even have time to scream before he is consumed, leaving only a pile of ash.

Kali turns towards a wide eyed Rein, who is still holding Sadie in place. He stares at Kali, and recognition dawns in his face.

“Kali! But how? You look...you look like HER!”

Growling, Kali continues walking towards him. In a panic now, he throws up his other hand towards her. You see her slow momentarily, her muscles taut, before the light around her flares and she continues walking forward. The strain in Rein’s eyes is obvious as he tries to slow Kali.

“Count! Stop her!”

The ogre turns from his brawl with Maya, both of them battered. Maya takes advantage and sinks both sets of claws into his back. With a grunt of pain, Count snatches Maya by the arm and hurls her against the house. You wince as she lands heavily, but see she just needs time to catch her breath. Meanwhile, Count lumbers towards Kali, raising a meaty fist to smash her down.

Kali doesn’t even break stride.

With a dismissive flick of a wrist, Count is covered in the same fires that consumed Rex. Again, the effect is fast and terrifying. The ogre turns to ash in seconds. And now Kali looms over Rein.

“It wasn’t enough my father sent you to spy on me, to babysit me? You don’t even have the decency to die in a hole like you deserve? And now you threaten my savior? The first person to ever show me compassion?”

Rein releases his grip on Sadie, staggering backwards. Sadie scramblers away, as transfixed by the unfolding drama as everyone else.

Rein looks at the enraged Lilim stalking closer. “Just...how do you look like her? You never looked like your mother before...”

Kali freezes, shaking. “Do not mention her. You are not worthy. I know it was you that took me as a baby. Took me to be raised by demons. You have been my father’s loyal hound since before I was born. That ends, now.”

For the third time, white fire leaps from Kali’s hand, and the result is the same. Kali stands over the ashes of Rein for a moment, before the fires around her flicker out.

The only sound is her heavy breathing, which turns into sobs as she drops to her knees. You leap to your feet and run to her. She looks at you with wet eyes.

“My love, are you ok?”

You nod, ignoring for the moment the metal collar around your neck. “More or less, yes.”

Kali’s eyes droop. “I...I lost my temper. Sorry about the mess...”

You look around, taking in the shattered glass door, the destroyed fence, the burnt path Kali had walked. “It’s fine, we’re all safe now.”

Kali nods, eyes closing. “Good...safe...”

Kali passes out in your arms. A bloodied Maya stumbles over. “Is she ok?”

“Just exhausted, I think. And you?”

“Battered, but nothing broken. I’ll be sore for a few days though. What....what’s that on your neck?”

You sigh, looking around. “Let’s get her inside. We can figure everything out once we all calm down.”
