Chapter 11

Do you do anything?
Might as well lighten things up, you don't want to spend the rest of the day sulking
You gave in, you couldn't hold on to this grudge, you're still mad, but you don't see a point in keeping things tense, you sigh and relax, looking over to the Imperial.
"You have a name, Imperial?" You ask
The Legionnaire looks back up at you, with a slightly surprised look, almost like he wasn't expecting any more conversation.
"Nacius..."
He perks up a bit.
"Nacius Hertia."
You stand up, spinning your rabbit around in the process, then you step over to the Imperial, extending your hand for a handshake.
"Are you... Not mad at me anymore?" He asks curiously.
You shrug your shoulders and let out a small chuckle.
"Sanna is still mad, very mad... But she figures that it would be better to lighten the mood a bit, yes?"
Nacius stands up and shakes your hand.
"Thank the nine, things were getting so tense, I swear it was getting hard to breath!" He says with a grin.
You roll your eyes, and pull your rabbit away from the fire to inspect it.
"Don't press your luck Imperial, Sanna isn't in the mood."
He chuckles once again, looking back at the fire.
Your rabbit looks ready to eat, it doesn't look particularly appetizing, but for an animal that was cut open and held over a fire, it was okay. You sit back down in front of the fire, Nacius follows suit and sits next to you, then he looks at the rabbit.
"You sure you want to eat that?"
You look over at Nacius, he's got a concerned look on his face, you felt nervous and embarrassed, you'd never really hunted for food before, you figured when the animal was dead you just kinda... cooked it.
You try to maintain your composure. "I'ts all this one has... do you not think Sanna should eat this?" You half-joke, as now you're really afraid that you were about to poison yourself.
He motions for you to hand the rabbit to him, you oblige. He begins to point at well... the whole thing.
"Still has fur, bones, organs, I didn't want to speak up earlier while you were ehm... having your moment."
You immediately felt embarrassed, if you didn't have fur, Nacius definitely would've seen you blush.
"This one ehh... Sanna doesn't..." You couldn't talk, feeling so embarrassed you became a stuttering fool."
Nacius leans closer to you.
"You've never hunted before haven't you?" He say's with an exaggerated, cocky whisper.
The humiliation was almost unbearable, you look away and hide your face in your hands, like a toddler.
Nacius stands up and begins pacing around the fire, chuckling.
"You're lucky I came across you miss, from the looks of it, you probably would've poisoned yourself or choked on some bone!"
Again with the jokes, you're far too embarrassed to be angry right now, you look up at him and try to form something to say back to him, but nothing comes out and you just plant your face back into your hands.
Nacius stops walking around the campfire and he walks up to you, crouching beside you.
"Hey..." He say's, sounding oddly concerned.
Nacius taps your shoulder with his hand to try and get your attention, you look up at him, hands still on your face.
He holds the rabbit up next to him, smirking. "We all start somewhere, it's never too late to learn."
He lowers the rabbit and gives it a slight shake. "Although i'd say it's a bit too late to start with this rabbit here."
You agree, the rabbit is mangled and you don't even know if it even cooked, you glance over at the other half of the rabbit that's laying in the dirt just outside of your tent, you spot a few flies buzzing around it... yeah, there's probably no salvaging this.
You let out a sigh and uncover your face. "No... this one has never really hunted before... Sanna assumes that there is no saving what is left of the rabbit?"
Nacius looks back at the half in his hand, then at the one in front of the tent.
"Yeah, if you killed this last night, it's already been way too long, plus you haven't uhh, taken all the bits out, and it's already slightly seared." He rotates the rabbit carcass in his hands, looking over your work.
You're still hungry, even the thought of eating now makes you feel hungrier.
You stand up and begin kicking dirt on the fire, trying to extinguish it.
"So much for breakfast, this one is starving." You say under your breath.
As you extinguish the fire, you look over at Nacius, he grabs the other half of the rabbit and throws them past the treeline.
"Why did you do that?" You ask.
Nacius walks back towards your camp, brushing bits of rabbit off of his hands. "Something out here will eat it, wolves, bears, a stray troll, if nothing does, the bugs will eventually start eating away at it."
He walks over to where he placed his helmet, he leans over, picks it up, then places it back on his head.
"We should get moving, I don't want to wait and see if that rabbit will attract anything." Nacius says, adjusting his helmet.
You agree, in hindsight it was a miracle that nothing came across you at night, then again, the rabbit wasn't "cooked" then.
"Sanna agrees, do you have a horse Nacius?" You ask, walking over to your tent to begin disassembling it.
Nacius puts his fingers in his mouth, blowing a whistle, startling you. Shortly after, a tall dark brown horse trots into your campsite.
"If you're patrolling the county roads, you need a horse." He say's enthusiastically.
"How come it hasn't run off?" You ask.
"He's a good lad, helped raise him with my uncle since he was practically a foal."
Nacius began petting his horse as you disassembled the tent and made sure everything was accounted for. You began feeling nervous again, hoping that the smell of that "cooked" rabbit wouldn't attract any predators.
Does anything happen?
