Chapter 9

What's next?

Meeting Dr. Manchester

Lauren waddled behind the nurse as he lead the two women to Room 3, Jessie doing everything in her power not to burst out laughing. Soon, the three came up to the room in question as Henry opened the door, Jessie grabbing the little woman by her wrist and leading her into the room.

"Okay, girls," Henry said as he stood in the doorway, "Dr. Manchester will be with you in a moment."

With that, Henry closed the door and walked away, presumably to do another job. Lauren merely stood there, not believing this was happening to her. Suddenly, without warning, Jessie lifted the little woman up and placed her onto the examination table, the little woman letting out a squeak before glaring at her larger, smiling coworker.

A few minutes later, the door opened and a woman in her early forties with brunette hair and green eyes walked into the room with a smile on her face.

"Hello, I'm Dr. Manchester." The doctor introduced herself as she looked down at her clipboard. "And you must be little Lauren Daniels, is that right?"

"Um..." Lauren began, a little red faced at this entire situation.

"I'm sorry, Doctor." Jessie interrupted, cutting Lauren off before the little woman could say anything. "Little Laurie is just shy around new people."

"As to be expected with children her age." Dr. Manchester replied, causing Lauren to look at her quizzically. What was that supposed to mean? Just what age did Jessie put down on those forums?! "Now then," Dr. Manchester continued, "my notes say that you're 225.3 pounds, Lauren. Are you eating properly? And please tell me the truth."

"Um... I think so..." Lauren said, still confused. "Is something wrong?"

"Well, it's just that that's an unhealthy weight for a five-year-old like yourself to be at." Dr. Manchester explained, causing Lauren to go wide eyed. Five?! Jessie told these people that she was five?! And they believed that?!

For her part, Jessie was doing a good job at keeping a straight face, even though she was laughing like a lunatic on the inside. "Don't worry, Doctor. I'll make sure that Lauren cuts down on the cookies, ice cream, and candy." Jessie finally said, giving a subtle smirk at Lauren's reddening face.

"Actually, I'm not -"

"All the same," Dr. Manchester interrupted, as if Lauren hadn't even said anything, "I believe that she should be more active to work off the fat. Childhood obesity is no laughing matter. I would like to see her after two months to see if her weight improves."

Lauren pouted at the unintended jab at her weight. She made a promise to herself that, when she got out of this mess, she would vist the gym eight times a month rather than her usual twice a year. Meanwhile, Jessie merely nodded in response.

"Now, my notes also tell me that you're here for your shots, right Lauren?" Dr. Manchester asked, looking over her clipboard again.

"Look, I don't know what this - " Lauren began, only to go wide eyed at what the doctor had just said. Did she just say "shots"? With an "S"? As in "plural"? As in "more than one"? "Um... Shots?" Lauren asked whimper.

"Yes." The doctor replied, "It says that you need your flu shot and your booster shot. However, we can worry about those after your examination, okay sweetie?" As Lauren gulped nervously, Dr. Manchester turned to Jessie and asked, "Do you mind if I ask you some questions about your daughter's medical history before we start, Ms. Daniels?

"I tell you everything that you need to know." Jessie replied with a smile. Lauren saw the malicious gleam in her coworker's eye and whimpered, knowing full well that Jessie was going to make things up as she attempted to humiliate the little woman.
