Chapter 9 by DaveSureLong
What next?
The Decaying Reactor
Heading down the stairs after the Architect I pass by the first floor where the Cogitant Officer was busy sitting at a Rotted Secretaries Desk, calling it a desk is a kindness as it was little more than a moldy board above some dirt that was the sidings rusted metal corner caps can be seen on the board extending into the mound of dirt. Approaching the desk I note that the Officer was busy using it's finger to etch battle plans into the wood in a micro scale the rotted wood slowly being coated with counter plans to any attack on the tower by man, beast, or otherwise. Looking closer I note he has plans to use the Construction drones to Build weights in the air above the enemy as a form of artillery, rather ingenious now that I think of it.
Satisfed the Officer is doing a good job I head towards the the stair well behind him and head down into the basement level moving towards the sound of the Architects engines. Rounding the corner of the stairwell I head towards the sound. Coming up behind the Architect it's over looking a bubble of corroded and decayed metal and cracked stone. Hearing me coming it turns around and looks at me and begins voicing it's concerns.
"The Reactor is heavily corroded and damaged, it's divine providence that it didn't give out before we awoke. However our increased strain has caused it to go into overdrive and has reduced it's lifespan from a Century of usage to 2 months and further excessive usage may cause the core to become more unstable and explode. I advise we begin preparing to leave or produce a new power supply from something and decommission the reactor."
Nodding I ask "Do you believe we can shunt it's output directly into the Grid Supply so we can storage it's power in the Ravtarian Grid while we move away from it? Additionally do you have any plans on a replacement power supply?"
Whirring the Cogitant thinks clacking and clicking away as it runs through it's designs. While it thinks I look over the reactor more closely, it truly is in bad condition there's a hole in the middle of the indistinct metal shell, looking into the hole reveals the Core of the machine a weakly glowing orb of metals and light it wobbles slightly in it's casing and there's signs of melting on the housing and the casing and it looks recent the melted metal slightly shinier than the rest. As I finish my inspection the Architect begins speaking again.
"I have determined we could dump the reactors power into our grid but it would expedite the degradation and should only be done if we plan to leave. Additionally I have determined we can produce Fuel Burning Steam Engines to produce power, or use Solar Steam Boilers. Both can produce the needed power but have their obvious draw backs."
Nodding in understanding I'm left to determine what to do.
To move or not to move that is the question.
