Unpacking your thoughts

“So you’re saying she doesn’t want to fight?”

You’re relaxing on the couch, Maya is laying her head on your lap as Lynn leans against you from the other side. Maya looks up at you with a confused expression.

“But isn’t she trying to kidnap you and Lynn?”

You give Lynn a squeeze and the little goblin happily snuggles against you. “It’s hard to tell. She definitely seems conflicted. I can’t really tell about what, but she did let it slip that she’s half human.”

Lynn looks at you, nodding. “Well, that explains why she looks mostly human. Most demons, even succubi, look very obviously inhuman, with spiny growths and claws, things like that.”

You look between the two girls. “I don’t think we’re safe yet, but I think she will hesitate a bit before attacking. She did seem like she’s a bit ****, though. I wonder what her life was like up to this point...”

Sadie walks in and flops into a nearby chair. “Oh! I can probably help a bit. Djinn hear a lot of rumors! People say that Kali is considered a bit of a freak among demons. She’s not mean enough to fit in, so she tries to prove herself a lot. I’ve heard that the demon lord thinks of her as an experiment, and a bit of a failure.”

You consider this. It would explain her **** attempt to recruit or capture you. There is something very human in the desire to win a parents approval. But letting her get what her father wants isn’t really an option.

“If I had thought about it, I would have learned a tracking spell. Ambushing her would have been smart. As it is, the next move is hers. I left with the opening for her to try talking, hopefully that’s enough.”

Maya chuckles, “You’ll have to forgive me for not trusting a demon to do the peaceful thing. At least we might have a bit of a secret weapon in Sadie.”

You nod, “I wouldn’t refer to you that way, Sadie, but you could be a ace up our sleeve if they try to fight again.”

Sadie smiles, “I’m happy to help! As long as it’s bad guys, you can consider the wind an ally! Oooo, and lightning, I can do that too! Zzzt!”

Everyone laughs, and you shake your head. “Hopefully it won’t come to that, but good to know. Thanks Sadie.”
