Vanessa

When Vanessa’s phone went off and she saw it was Lauren, at first she scoffed and rolled her eyes. But when she answered she was taken aback. She heard her sister sobbing on the other end. Vanessa thought to herself. What would make Lauren cry? Never in her life had she ever heard Lauren cry. So whatever it was it must have been bad. Vanessa narrowed her eyes. Only she could mess with her sister. Vanessa jumped up, threw her shoes on and grabbed her keys. She drove to Lauren’s house to see the door open just ajar. Vanessa gently pushed the door open. The house was dark but she saw a light coming from up the stairs.

Vanessa made her way up the stairs and heard the faint crying sounds. She gently pushed the door open and found Lauren laying on her stomach, buried in her pillows. Vanessa rushed over. “Lauren? Lauren what happened? Are you okay?”

Lauren froze for a moment and sighed as she turned to face her sister. “Not now, please. I can’t take any more.”

At first Vanessa was taken aback at how different her sister looked, but she sighed. She sat down on the bed and wrapped her arms around Lauren’s shoulders. “Tell me what happened, Lauren,” Vanessa said. “Come on, who do I have to ****?”

Lauren sobbed as she pressed her face against Vanessa’s shoulders. She managed to tell Vanessa everything that happened through her tears and hiccups. “It was so humiliating! I can never go roller skating. I can n-never go bowling. I... I don’t know what to do! Vanessa, my life is over!”

Vanessa held Lauren tightly and rubbed her back. “Those bitches really did all of that to you? And wow, Nathan... really is the biggest asshole. I’m so sorry you went through all of that. Not even you deserve all of that. I mean, **** is one thing, but pure public humiliation? I swear I’m going to kill them.”

“N-nessa, what will I do?” Lauren cried.

“You are Lauren fricking Adkins! Pull-yourself-together! "What will you do?" Is this a question? You will show them you remember who they are, and you will remind them who you are,” Vanessa said. “I’ll take care of those bitches, but you need to remember that you are Lauren. And you didn’t become the Ice Queen for no reason.”

“B-but.... n-no one likes me,” Lauren sniffled.

“That’s not true. You have all those friends back in middle school. And they never knew this version of you. And even though you can be annoying. You’re still my sister, Lauren. And that won’t ever change,” Vanessa said. “So pick yourself up and let’s get you your confidence back. But first, please put something on. I have business to take care of. But when I get back, we’re going to change everything.”
