Chapter 58 by divalution divalution

Which pokemon do you start the battle with?

You Lead With Pidgeotto

You decide to save your super-effective pokemon for later in the battle, and send out your dependable flying-type to start things off. The battle begins, and with a hand motion from Misty her Poliwag jumps back onto the platform she's standing on. "Water Gun!" she calls, and the tadpole pokemon obediently fires a jet of water from the swirl pattern on its belly, aimed straight at your Pidgeotto. You are able to react in time, however, and command a dodge, the bird pokemon's agility serving it well as it flies out of the way of the projectile attack.

"Pidgeotto, Wing Attack!" you command, and the flying-type soars through the air towards Misty's platform, sharp eyes locked on Poliwag.

"Poliwag, Hypnosis!" orders Misty, looking slightly concerned at the advancing Pidgeotto but still having her pokemon stand its ground. The swirl on Poliwag's belly starts rotating in a mystifying pattern, and yellow spirals of psychic energy are shot towards Pidgeotto, looking to send the bird pokemon to sleep and render it useless. However, Pidgeotto's speed and your quick reactions once again save your loyal companion, as you are able to signal it to divert its course mid-flight, the bird veering away from Poliwag just in time to avoid the Hypnosis. It then circles back just as quickly, and Misty is unable to prevent the Wing Attack landing, striking her pokemon from behind and knocking it from her platform into the pool, where it floats dazed on the surface of the water.

"God dammit!" she curses, as her sisters laugh at her once again; she's clearly paying too much attention to them and not enough to the battle. "Tackle!" you order, sensing a chance to knock Poliwag out. Pidgeotto dives down towards the prone water-type, but Misty is more focused than you realise, and is able to call for Poliwag to use Dive, allowing it to submerge underwater to escape the attack. "Pidgeotto, fly back up!" you call, assuming that Poliwag will leap out of the water to complete the attack on your flying pokemon.

What happens next surprises you, however. Instead of attacking your pokemon, Poliwag resurfaces next to your platform, and rams its small body into the side of the floating structure. "W-woah!" you cry out, as the platform wobbles, and you can't stop yourself; you slip and fall, plummeting into the pool and landing with a splash. The water isn't cold by any means, but is still a big shock to your system as you frantically claw your way to the surface. You can hear Misty laughing at you, and then also hear her call for another Water Gun. That little shit knocked me in intentionally! This is cheating! You aren't an especially confident swimmer, and can't focus on treading water and commanding your pokemon at the same time, so Misty essentially has free reign to land attacks on Pidgeotto without you being able to issue any orders.

Frantically you swim back to your platform and climb back onto it, pulling your wet, bedraggled body out of the water. You stand up, water droplets running off you and forming a puddle on your platform. Thank God I agreed to wear this stupid bikini... you think begrudgingly, before turning to face the battle. Misty's Poliwag has successfully knocked your Pidgeotto out of the air with Water Gun attacks, and your flying-type now lies face down on Misty's platform; you are unable to do anything to stop Misty ordering a Pound from her pokemon, landing the final blow on the bird and knocking it out.

Misty whoops with joy. "Nice going, Poliwag!" she cheers, before looking mockingly at you. "Have a nice swim, slut?"

"You fucking bitch!" you hiss at her, spitting the words out of your mouth as you recall Pidgeotto to its pokeball. "That was an illegal move and you know it!"

"Technically Poliwag never attacked you," she says, smugly. "Not my fault you're a clumsy bimbo and fell off the platform. Right, Lorelei?"

The Elite 4 member looks irritated at having to get involved, as she had specifically said that the battle should be run as if she wasn't there. "Misty is correct," Lorelei sighs, reluctantly. "Nothing she did was against the League's rules, I'm afraid, Amber. The KO stands."

Misty pumps her fist in the air, and you scowl at her. I fucking hate her...

"That was really lame, Misty," sighs Lily, sounding genuinely disappointed. For once Misty ignores her sister, instead focused on you and what you're going to send out next.

You ready your next pokeball. "Go, Oddish!" you call, aggression filling your voice as you unleash perhaps your best weapon against the water gym leader. You don't want to waste any more time; that Poliwag needs to go.

Is Oddish able to take out Poliwag?
