Chapter 3 by SquashedFlat SquashedFlat

Who?

A Witch Doctor Or A Bounty Hunter?

(Originally by Cheese111. Edited by Squashedflat)

In a town like Gold Springs it seemed everyone wanted a piece of her. Bringing law to a place so long devoid of it was bound to bring out heavy resistance. But Texas did not accept this job because it was easy. She had the grit to see it through and make this sleepy little town a beacon of order. Granted, she'd probably end up arresting half the town for it, but if that's what it would take she wouldn't hesitate to do it.

Her righteous determination had her walking down the main street proudly. She overheard some of the citizens talking to eachother, and the rumor she picked up piqued her interest immediately.

"Ya heard o this doctor that set up just outside town?"

"A doctor? Why'd we need another doctor?"

"No, this is a magic doctor, uses all sorts o hokey trinkets an' chants to heal ya. Mah ankles have been killin' me. One little potion from her and a weird song 'n ritual later an' the pain's gone. She says she's a witch and a doctor."

"You sure you haven't been drinkin some bad tequila?"

"I'm tellin ya, ye should see this witch-doctor. She said she could even help you find love..."

The two citizens burst into giggles, but the sheriff was intrigued. Was this for real or was this just another con-merchant selling water for a fortune and claiming it's a magical cure-all. They didn't bother letting her know about their arrival, which Texas always found a little suspicious.

Further down the street she saw a group of Vivian's thugs loitering around, huddled together. Of course Vivian would deny high and low that she even knew these bear and rhino ladies, but Texas had been around long enough to know they were the ones that took care of the mayor's dirty work. They were muttering among eachother in hushed whispers. The sheriff could barely make out what they were saying.

"New bounty hunter... Texas. Stinkin' weasel... found again. Old coal mine..." The last sentence trailed off in laughter before one of the thugs spotted the sheriff listening in. The conversation halted and the brutes dispersed, some whistling innocently to themselves. Is mayor Vivian trying her luck with another cheap bounty hunter? The last one was still waiting for release in a jail cell after Texas handily kicked his ass up and down main street. At least the thugs were helpful enough to drop a location for her. The old coal mine. Gold Springs may've earned it's name off all the gold mines in the mountains, but there were a scant few shafts that found a different prize. The old coal mine was large, the only nearby source of coal to smelt all the gold in town. There's no telling what she might find in there, but it sounded like something worth investigating.

So Where To?
