Calling backup

Ensuring that your captives are securely bound and gagged, you call the AWIO. You ask to speak to Rachel, and they transfer you quickly.

“Josh! Is something wrong? You don’t normally call unless something is up.”

“You could say that. My front door was just blasted open, and Maya and Elys subdued a couple men. I’m not sure what to do now. They had a net and a shock rod of some kind, I think they wanted to kidnap Maya.”

“Oh! Is everyone ok?”

“We’re fine, they’re ****. Maya roughed one guy up, and Elys...mesmerized the other or something.”

“I’m on my way. I’m bringing some people, just keep them tied up. We’ll be there soon!”

You hang up the phone and look at the girls. Maya is reclining on the couch, watching the men carefully. Anna has busied herself with cleaning up the remnants of the front door. Elys, meanwhile, is examining the items the men brought.

“Josh. Thisss isss not normal gear. The net and rod are enchanted. They have magic equipment. Sssomeone isss providing the HPP with gear from the other world.”

You think for a second. “So they have access to either a portal, or the Auction. I wonder why they want to capture you two, though.”

Maya speaks up, “Well, we know they want to separate us, they think I’m an animal. I don’t think they need more reason than that, really.”

You sit on the couch and Maya puts her feet in your lap, wiggling her scaled toes at you. You chuckle and begin massaging her feet. A contented sigh escapes her mouth and she smiles at you. “Looks like I trained you well, my Josh.”

You roll your eyes, noticing that there are two cars pulling up outside. Rachel and two burly men get out. Anna meets them at the door, or what is left of it, bringing them in to you.

"Josh, I’m sorry this happened. These two will collect the attackers and bring them for questioning. Don’t worry, we’ll keep you in the loop. Also, holy crap Maya, you did a number on this one.”

Maya grins, “He called me a lizard.”

Rachel laughs, shaking her head, “Remind me to stay on your good side. Elys, thank you for only hypnotizing this one.”

“He would make an ugly ssstatue.”

“I assume the four of you will come with us, it’s not really safe here until we find out what these two know. We have a place you can stay while we get some answers. And a door.”

You chuckle, and grab your car keys.
