What is it?
Hubris.
Ambition and arrogance are all well and good, but only if they work in your favor. Leaning in, you plant another suggestion into Dominique's mind, and like a phantom, step away from her.
In the bright light of her home, you see all the color in her face drain away and her arms flail, slapping against any surface she touches. "I can't see! I can't see! Where are you?!" she cries, abject terror in her voice.
Swooping in right next to her, you gently kiss her cheek and whisper into her ear, "I'm here." Her eyes light up as vision returns for but a moment, before going dark when you slink away again.
"No! No, come back! I can't see anything without you!" she howls, crashing into her dining table. Her cutlery clatters onto the floor as you find another place you can stand, before beckoning her over to you. Her head snaps in the direction of your voice, and groping around her home, she tries to make her way over to you. Toying with her, like your cat to her mouse, every time she comes close to you, you touch her and allow her a beat, maybe two, of clarity before fading away like a wisp.
Leading her around her home like this, you ignore her wails and screams, taunting and teasing her every step, until she's crawling on all fours, with tears streaming down her face, her voice almost gone. It is when you've made your way into her home office or study, the room in which she controls her little world, that you think is time to break her. Positioning yourself in front of her desk, you call her over until she's right in front of you. "Stop."
That is enough. Shivering, she swallows hard, turning her head from side to side, listening for you. Softening your face, you lean down and plant another suggestion into her ear, as to what she will see when you return her vision to her.
