Chapter 4 by aniasnin aniasnin

Which one first?

World-Walker

No one volunteers. The women stand toughly beside one another, each refusing to show fear. You smile. These four women are a far cry from the shell-shocked creatures of the night before. You look them over and guess what has occurred. You disappear, teleporting immediately behind them. Before they can move you wrap a strong arm around the eldest woman's throat, yanking her tightly against you. Your free hand sweeps toward the other four, and they collapse whimpering on the floor as staccato bursts of pain flood their bodies. Your grin grows wider: though you had included the raven-haired woman in your grip in the gesture, she remains stoically silent and unmoving. You move your free hand in front of her face and twist it slowly, noting her continued stoicism in the face of increasing pain. Finally you gesture again and the three writhing women gasp with relief. You twist your hand, locking the stairway exits, and you and the woman disappear.

You take the two of you to another room of the tower. It is large, probably taking up the entire floor of the tower. It has an enormous open window on the south side, well lit despite the sun in the east. Through the window is the open sea. The room is strangely furnished: fountains litter the floor spewing water into the air. A deep pool fills the center of the room, and what seem to be small streams and rivulets carve across the floor. You release her throat and turn in a circle. "I built my tower here to enjoy the best aspects of all this land had to offer. You and your companions probably chose it for much the same reasons. A pity you couldn't truly enjoy the full effect without being able to teleport throughout it. We're on the fourth level; the third, naturally, is the cliffs, the fifth forest, and the sixth earth. I thought you'd find this level the most... intense. You're a tough woman of stone, born to the deep places with low roofs and low light. Dry, hot places too, deep in the earth. Open, wet, bright... this room is especially frightening, is it not? But I apologize for my rudeness; I have only talked, never listening. Tell me, my dear, what is your name?"

Who is she?
