Lois Lane tried to clear her head. She was topless, with her mother, in a secret club.

I can handle this, Lois told herself. I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.

She opened her eyes...and fixated on the server, leaning over to leave a new jug of water on the table. Her breasts were so heavy that they nearly grazed the white tablecloth.

Lois reached into her pocket and left a bill on the table. The woman saw it.

"I'm looking for some friends of mine," the reporter asked. "I wonder if you've seen them."

The woman paused.

"Lots of people come through here. Can't say I've seen them all..."

Lois laid another bill on top of the first.

"Diana Reynolds. 19, copper-red hair, majors in modern dance..."

The server's hand dropped down to the table and grabbed the bills.

"Bathroom, near the bar. The stall all the way in the back."

Lois waited for her to leave. She poured water for herself and her mother.

"What do you call that?" Ella Lane asked. "Bribery?"

"Expensive," the reporter said. "But obviously there's something shady going on. So we wait a few minutes, and then I go to the bathroom—"

"We go to the bathroom," her mother insisted.

"—and see what we see."

They at in silence, drinking, and sweating. Lois could actually feel a trickle of pressure in her bladder. However, her mind was running through the possibilities of what she was going to find. Maybe human trafficking...young college-age women **** into life as sex slaves...assuming it was ****, the person or persons responsible would have a reason behind it, and since they hadn't asked for ransom that meant that the reason had to be pretty nasty indeed, because the women were worth more alive.

Quietly, Lois stood up. Her mother followed her. Two women going to the bathroom together didn't even cause a glance.
