Customizations and Challenges

"...you can spend Gems on yourself now!" Jen picks up my phone from the bed and hands it to me. Without her touching the screen, the app has already opened my own customization page. "And if you're out of Gems, you can always earn more by accepting some challenges."

That looks like a very good idea. I immediately add it to my cart and buy it. There aren't any sweeping changes but it feels like a slight background pressure has been lifted that I didn't even notice was there in the first place. I think back to my male body - it seems so clunky now that I know what the alternative feels like. The same goes for the name. I'm definitely not a James now, and I don't want to go back to being one.

"My name is Deanna."

Whoa. That just came out of my mouth. But it's true, that's my name now. My old pants are who-knows-where in this room, but I'm sure the ID in my wallet says Deanna Troi Parker.

Kathryn looks at me surprised for a moment, then smiles. "You'll always be my Captain."

In addition to all the other things the app lets me do to myself, there's also a flashing Challenges tab in my profile, as well as a flashing achievement notification in the background. As I tap Challenges, it shows some special options. Kathryn looks over my shoulder with interest.

Each Challenge effect lasts for 24 hours, except those marked with a ♥. You can make effects permanent for double rewards. Challenges cannot repeat.

HotKey Yourself - +2 Gems per unique HotKey used

"I'm pretty sure I'll do that, but first I want to see what that notification says." I tap the flashing notification button.

I feel my shoulder getting heavier as Kathryn relaxes and leans more into me. "Yes... Those eyes...."

Oh boy. That doesn't make my choice much easier.
