“And what time do you call this, young man? I’ve been wondering where you’ve been” was a phrase uttered from the darkness, filling Andrew with dread.

With a click his mother, Charlene, switched on the tableside lamp, bathing the room in a yellow glow and exposing Andrew’s feminine form.

Charlene at first was perplexed by the presence of the girl in front of her, but as she examined her face, she saw beyond the makeup and Aubrey bangs, recognising her son.

An awkward silence perforated the air like a region of dense pressure, till Andrew finally broke the silence with “Well it’s getting pretty late, I better go to be-“ , his voice still high-pitched from the teeth whitener, only to be cut off by his mom shouting “Wait just a minute there missy, you’ve got some explaining to do!”.
