"I was in my senior year at the university when the sickness hit"

You stand up and dust yourself off, as you listen to Tomi start to talk. "I was at school when the sickness hit. The only problem will be how to move it to wherever you set up your home. You really don't want to be in the basement forever, it is far too indefensible, it would be a trap with its one exit, and nonexistent line of sight. You realize what you need is something higher up, but still hidden, maybe the top floor of an office building. What you need is something that will allow you to see trouble coming, and be defensible.

Tomi helps you carry things, and you head back to the basement to spend one more night before striking out for tomorrow. You did find a good gas lantern and can of kerosene so the night will be a little brighter. You are making the last trip down to the basement as the light begins to fail outside as the sun sets. You can hear a dog howling in the distance, and you shudder as you think about the beast that almost ripped your throat out earlier today.

You make a stew with some canned vegetables, and a salami that you found at the food court. It is probably not that good but tastes great after the long day of hard work exploring and carrying items back to the basement. Tomi eats well also, surprising for such a small, slight girl.
