Bar the doors

‘No guts, no glory’ you decide and bar the doors to the tower. The room becomes much darker as the doors close and you begin to question the wisdom of attacking a tower full of **** soldiers by yourself. Before you have time to reconsider your decision you hear pounding on the door from outside the tower.

“Demonius! Get those arrows up here now. You useless farts aren’t even willing to fight for your own city. Do you think a full purse will spare your life now?” Glancing at the man who fainted you notice that he does have a full purse at his belt. Cutting it from him you are pleased by the its weight as you drop it into your pouch. Opening the small door on the right of the stairs you see a set of steps lit by a small lantern leading down into the basement, the stench of unwashed bodies and fecal mold pours up from the narrow steps and you hear the clink of chains.

Stepping back you nearly trip over the bundle of arrows and you have an idea how to surprise the mercenaries defending the tower. You could at least check out what you were up against if you carried the arrows up the stairs. In this dim light and with the battle outside the tower the mercenaries probably wouldn’t notice your army uniform.
