Chapter 9 by TheArchitect TheArchitect

How does Jen try to save her day?

She loses her balance on purpose to avoid more harmful impacts.

Jen tried to stop using brakes, but they were nowhere to be found, and she did not remember seeing them while putting the roller heels on.

"How foolish of me. I pay the price now."

Jen bent her knees and elbows, closed her eyes and leaned to the right side. Then she felt the impact against the hard, hard floor. The pain in her limbs was real, even though it was numbed by the coldness applied by the tiles, which was probably as uncomfortable.

The girl then opened her eyes and saw blood on her scratched knee. Everything else was just bumps, and it came to her mind that she needed to get back to her feet as quickly as possible. It was not easy with regular rollers, but additional elevation from the heels brought the difficulty to a whole new level.

Thankfully, there was a locker within Jen's reach. As she raised herself with its help, she noticed that there was a drawing of a wheel painted on the locker door. The girl thought it might be worth investigating, even though she did not even think it would be related to anything that happened to her before.

The door opened easily, and Jen had to bend forward slightly to see the contents. She leaned her skates against the foot of the locker and toes together to make sure she was not going to roll away by accident this time.

First, she saw a pile of shiny keys, but then her whole attention was captured by larger items that the locker held. There were a few sets of protective gear, accompanied by more roller skates, except these had different shoes built into them. One pair was stiletto sandals without platform, the next one was thigh high velvet boots, and the last present pair had incredible 10 inch heels and massive platform, but was 'disguised' as sneakers of a well-known brand.

{if Insanity < 20} "Almost confused 'em with those I wear to the gym, yeah."{endif}

However, it was protective equipment that Jen was interested in. Her curious fingers drew out a knee pad. The outer side was made of a high-tech polymere that provided great durability. It extended both up and down the leg a little bit, and its skin-connected part was more stretchy, yet there was some harder ribbing inside, and the girl did not know why it was there.

She put it on the top of the locker and proceeded to draw the second knee pad, elbow pads, gloves and, finally, a bulky helmet.
