Chapter 5 by minor-alterations minor-alterations

What's next?

She reads your thoughts

Unsure of what had just happened, you watch her eat and try to find fitting words. What, or rather who she claims to be, sounds beyond any rational grounds improbable, even impossible. To believe that a human, above all your own lovely girlfriend who you‘ve known since the beginning of high-school had obtained godlike powers isn‘t just gullible, it is straight up foolish.

“Foolish?,” Ava says with full mouth, then swallowed. “You think to believe that I‘m omnipotent is foolish?”

“Wait, are you reading my thoughts?”

“I‘m speaking plain English, don‘t I?” Ava sounds on the edge, even a little angry. “I can do everything. Fucking everything. With just a thought. Actually with less than a thought; it‘s more like an intuition. My mind doesn‘t even have to formulate what I want. It simply happens. No kidding, I‘m now the most powerful, most influential and most important being there is. So yes, reading the thoughts of a single little human pretty much is among my abilities.”

Naturally you feel intimidated what to think now. If you think about how Ava has become a selfish, self-absorbed narcissist she‘d know about that. If you think about pretending to be psyched for her, she‘d know about that. If you think about dumping her, she‘d know about that, and not even God could help your soul this time.

Ava finishes her croissant and giggles. “Oh honey,” she teases and licks some chocolate off her finger. “I‘m sorry. You don‘t have to be afraid. Especially not of me. I still love you, now even more after yesterday night. You rejected the hottest girl you‘ve ever seen just to stay faithful to me. You proved that you still desire and deserve me. I tested if you were worthy of me, and you passed. And for that, for being my ‘tough guy‘, I‘ll make all your wildest dreams come true. You‘ll see, I didn‘t become THAT selfish. Come on, eat something. I know you‘re hungry.”

Your wildest dreams. Although that doesn‘t sound half bad for you, you‘re still occupied with worrying about her reading your mind, hearing any of your private thoughts. You figure if it‘s possible to think nothing at all, but at the moment that seems to be pretty impossible.

As your plate remains empty, Ava sighs once more. “Alright,” she says. “You‘re the exception. I won‘t read your goddamn mind anymore. Relieved now? Could we finally share some breakfast together? We didn‘t do that in five months.” You did as you was told and grabbed for a warm toast.

“And how...,” you whisper, stopped and swallowed, “how does it feel like?” Ava‘s smile shone.

“To be almighty? Oh, it‘s like a tingling rush of power streaming through every inch of my body. A warm sensation giving me incredible pleasures of ecstasy, and it strikes me that I‘m made out of pure light. It‘s a new level of freedom. It‘s ultimate freedom. I hope you‘ll understand why I might appear a little...well... reckless. I just came to the understanding that it's in my human nature to do what‘s best for me.”

“Human?,” you ask. “How can you still be human?”

“Because I choose to be. You see, I gave up my humanity once I became God. But just for about a minute. I thought, why not go all the way and become something bigger than God? Therefore I assumed a more cosmic role. And alongside being all-powerful I became omnipresent and all-knowing, everywhere, anytime, in infinite dimensions and whatever swamps that lay beyond. I was everywhere, at any time, because I was everything. Every drop in the ocean, every dust particle in the multiverse, every form of energy, yes, I was even every atom of your body, honey. And it was such unbelievable... tedious. Just boring. I knew when anything would happen and had happened and so on, there was no excitement. Like looking at the same picture for all of eternity. I kinda felt captured in my perfection. So I erased all the knowledge I had granted myself, turned back human and now enjoy the benefits of being ultipotent.”

“Ultipotent?”

“It means that I‘m all-powerfull but not all-knowing. Well, I could be, but as said, that turned out to be a snorefest.”

You‘ve scarcely nibbled on your toast, just nervously crumbled it between your fingers and try to calm your heartbeat. “Ava, what you‘re saying is... I‘m sorry but I still can‘t grasp all of that.”

“Pretty mind-blowing, heh? Get a load of this.” Her slim index finger slightly raises off her glass and points over the table. All of a sudden, your body relaxes. Your breath slows down and your thoughts become more tangible. Moreover, the situation somehow comes across less and less strange to you, although you was still aware of its wackiness. You feel as if you had known about Ava‘s omnipotence for years already. Somehow her godhood appeared natural, yes even plausible to you.

“What happened?,” you ask and rub your forehead.

“Nothing drastic,” Ava answers. “I just calmed you down a bit. It annoyed me that you still wouldn‘t believe me, so I rid you of your incredulity. Now you‘ll think clearer and skip all the doubt. You‘re welcome.”

“You did what?,” you blast out. “ Ava, you can‘t just tinker with other people‘s minds!”

“Of course I can,” she says without a hint of regret in her voice. “I can form anyone to my liking. Even alter memories or alter who the person thinks you or she is. Just like I did with my parents. I completely erased myself from their memories, altered all the clues of my existence and made them young happy-fucking billionaires on Hawaii.”

You remember the note your father has left you. “What did you do to mine?,” you ask with a quiver in your voice. “What did you do to my family?”

(AUTOR'S NOTE: If you're interested, please feel free to add as many chapters of any length as you want. I would love to see this story branching out. Thanks you so much for your support!)
