"That's a nice name."

"Lauren?” Janet asked again. She then smiled and added, “That’s a nice name; it’s very pretty. What’s your last name, Lauren?”

Lauren sighed in relief. Janet hadn’t figured out that she was an adult, so that was a good sign. Looking back up at Janet, Lauren realized that she still didn’t answer her question.

“Oh, my last name is…” Lauren trailed off, trying to think up a name. After some quick thinking, she decided to go with the first name that came to her mind, “Smith. My name is Lauren Smith.”

“Well, Lauren Smith,” Janet said, “we’ll find your mother soon enough. And believe me, I am going to give her a very long talk about leaving her children behind; assuming that I don’t arrest her for negligence first!” Janet had said that last part ominously, causing Lauren to gulp a bit.

“Sorry, Cupcake.” Janet apologized, flinching. “I’m a Mom myself, and it really steams me that someone would leave a little girl your age all alone at the park. They didn’t even bother to get you dressed!”

Lauren turned pink at the mention of her current attire. Her diaper was the only thing keeping her from being completely naked, and it was arguably more humiliating.

“You know what, I think you’d actually get along with my twins. You look like you’re all around the same age. Maybe even just a year younger.” Janet observed.

“How old is that?” Lauren asked, slightly terrified of what Janet’s answer would be.

“They just turned three last week.” Janet said innocently, not noticing the mortified, red face sitting next to her. “Ah, we’re here.”

Lauren looked out the window and saw that they were parking right outside the police precinct. Lauren gulped in fear and humiliation. Could she really go into a police station…in just a diaper?!
