Chapter 3

What's next?

Emerald Heist

“Hey, Lauren!” Rachel called out as she and Cassandra walked through the doorway of their hideout. “We’ve got some news!”

“What about?” Lauren asked, closing her laptop. Cassandra placed a newspaper in front of Lauren pointing at an article on the front page. Lauren picked it up and read the article aloud, “Famed Geologist and treasure hunter, Jackson Blake, 102, passed away last Tuesday night; leaving his only living relative – granddaughter Karen Wilson, 35 – in possession of his greatest find yet; a new variant of emerald the size of a golf ball. According to jewelers who were allowed to look at the emerald, the price of this one of a kind gem stone should be around – “

Lauren’s eyes went wide as she read the price, practically shouting, “Nine hundred and ninety-nine point eighty-six million dollars?!” A big, toothy grin appeared on Lauren’s face as she faced her cohorts. “Well, girls. We’re this close to retirement!”

“Yeah, about that,” Cassandra began, “you may want to continue reading. Page six.”

Lauren turned to page six and continued the article, “Taking caution as to not lose one of the few things that is left of her grandfather’s, Karen has moved into her late grandfather’s home; complete with state of the art motion sensor security cameras surrounding the outside parameters and are only able to be disabled from the inside…”

“Ooh,” Lauren grimaced, “this may be a problem. From what I’m seeing here, the only way to disable the cameras and bring the emerald out of the house, is if we were already in the house to begin with. And it’s not like she’s going to just let some random strangers into her house.”

“Luckily,” Cassandra beamed, “we have a plan.”

“You do, huh?” Lauren asked, rolling her eyes. “What is it?”

What is their plan?
