Chapter 33 by BlackMonosh BlackMonosh

What's next?

You meet the envoy

"I welcome you to my humble abode, my Eminence." the envoy greets you, making a palm and fist gesture, with the left palm covering the right fist, while bowing his head. You observe that it's probably to show that he has no hostile intent by covering his fist with his other hand; it's a cultural thing, just like a knight raising his helmet's eye shielding to show his sincerity.

You mimic his movement to show that you're a person who's open to other cultures. "Thank you for receiving me,"

The envoy, introduces himself as 'Zee-Yan-Key'. While seems easy enough to pronounce, you remind yourself to get your aide to get the correct way to spell his name. After you introduce yourself and a brief pleasantry, Zee-Yan -Key and his people show you and your entourage to the reception room. While walking there, you take note of Zee-Yan-Key's appearance. Around late 30 years of age, he still seems to be very much in shape, judging from his muscular frame and steady gait. Normally a man of this caliber would still be serving in the army, at least as a knight even if he's not good enough for a leadership position. While not unheard of, many kingdom and countries wouldn't send their knights as emissaries since it's a waste of able-bodied warriors as well as preventing suspicions on the receiving sides.

Hm... Perhaps you can ask about it later.

Once you reach the reception room, you and Zee-Yan-Key take your respective seats, while the rest stands a few steps away.

"Well then, my king, how can I be of service?" Zee-Yan-Key asks.

While your initial intent was to ask about the mythical sex tome from the east, the short tour on the way to room fills you with awe at the foreign goods. Perhaps that's the man's intent, which is to make you more susceptible to talks regarding trades. Why not, you decide silently, since having trade discussions holds a higher precedent in the order of things a king must do. You lean in while looking at the man in the eyes. "Recommend me something useful for my army," you say in a soft voice.

The man is caught by surprise by your question but quickly school his feature. "I don't know why my king considers that I'm the right person to ask. I'm, after all, a humble merchant trying to make a living on your land, under your father's permission."

"Oh, but my father told me to ask you exactly that in his will." You're lying, of course, since there's no such instruction. However, since your father is no idiot, he wouldn't accept a foreigner trading in his country just like that. "Besides, you would have been more convincing if you get your," your eyes roved toward an elderly man standing behind him, "attendant to impersonate you. Of course, if your deceit is found out, it would have dire consequence on the trust between the both sides."

Zee-Yan-Key closes his eyes for a moment before reopening them. "Very well, my king." He then signals for his escorts to leave the room and you follow suit. When the two of you are truly alone, he asks, "What kind of weapons are you looking for, my king?"

"Tell me about weapons from your country,"

He then starts to talk about the weapons from his country. One thing catches your attention, something called 'fire medicine'. According to him, the fire medicine can cause a flame to burn more brightly and depending on how it is processed, can make lightning-like flash as well as deep rumbling like thunder. What impressed you about the medicine is that misapplication has killed the person working on it as well as causes fire to break out.

You ask for the fire medicine to be supplied to your army
