Chapter 8

“An excellent deal, no?”
Take the job, and the data drive. It’s time for you to get to work.
Finally, your hand which had been hovering over the drive. Squeezes the edges and lifts the thin device, it’s a rectangular object. Easily able to fit into a pocket yet it feels much heavier than it really is. “Anything else I should know?” You ask, slotting away the drive in a pouch on your belt.
The client simply shakes her head, before correcting herself as you turn away. “Of course, how could I have forgotten. When you call that line, ask for the Fourth Sister, or my title Inquisitor. If I don’t respond immediately, simply speak when the call is picked up. Your words are enough.”
After hearing her out, you nod and stride away. The metal door shifting to the side again, this time you aren’t greeted by the petulant Stormtrooper, and remain unobstructed. Before the door shuts behind you, you hear her wish you well. “Good hunting, Mandalorian.”
The Besalisk appears downtrodden, in the kitchen - obscenities thrown around at him for his deplorable service to the Empire’s troops by the Officer who welcomed you in. “And this meat? It’s karkin’ raw, where on Coruscant did your supplier take it from? The Lower City wards - look at it, those’re kriffing worms! There are worms inside of your patties!” His humiliation done in public, while Troopers with their helmets off laugh at his misfortune.
You’d heard stories of this place during the time fo the Republic, the happy and busy atmosphere of Dex’s Diner. But that golden age of greasy heartwarming meals is gone forever, you recall a travelling Mandalorian back when you were a child - speaking of how it was a quaint but fantastic place especially thanks to its ready and cheerful customer service.
But that wasn’t of your concern when you walked out of the building, A280 slung over your back and took a ride all the way back to the Undercity, changing cabs on the way and rode an elevator down to Level 1311.
Navigating through the run-down apartments and maintenance shafts was a simple and minute task, especially since you knew where to go, and covering up your tracks was no longer something you had to worry about. Sliced droids worked their way through the halls, their task of maintaining the corridors was secondary to hiding every trace of the Mandalorians that travelled in and out of the underground maze.
Home sweet home.
