I would like pink a lot

Jim took a look at his coffee as he turned and got out of the line at Starbucks, wondering what would being a girl have to do with liking or disliking a particular color. On the one hand, he supposed, girls and boys were exposed to colors from the moment they were born, boys with a blue hat and girls with a pink hat, and most clothes for infants were similarly color-coordinated. Nowadays, while there was a trend to move away from such stereotypical associations, colors were still set along those lines.

He liked blue, don't get him wrong, and his parents were very much "boys would like blue" and "girls will like pink". If that was the whole point, no, he would not like pink. He had almost written that down too this morning, pre-coffee, but now, post-coffee, he thought about the whole quiz again. It wasn't from the point of view of a man answering this question. No. IF I WERE A GIRL, WOULD I LIKE THE COLOR PINK? he thought and Jim looked over at the women in the store. There were mostly business types (he was, after all, downtown in the financial district) and most women around him wore either blues, blacks, a white top here and there, but nothing really colorful or had any personality.

Almost sadly dull, in a way.

Jim knew the game, he knew the score, but that didn't mean that if he were born a girl, he would've taken the same track and ended up in the same place he was in, right? No, of course not. Jim took another swig at the coffee.

2.) IF YOU WERE A GIRL...WOULD YOU LIKE PINK?

In for a penny...Yes, I would like pink of all shades but it would not be the only color for me. I would balance it out with many different colors but a little would be a welcome thing. He was happy with the answer and slipped the quiz back into his padfolio and closed it. As he got up from his table, a woman came by and tapped him on the shoulder. "Sorry, sir, you forgot this."

He looked down at the phone in her hand and laughed. "Sorry, thank you, guess this didn't kick in yet." Jim tucked the off-pink case into his pocket and walked back in the direction of his office.

Getting home that evening, he glanced up the road at the sight of a moving van parked out in front of the house three doors down. It hadn't been empty before, right? Didn't the Morgans live there? He wondered about that and when he went inside, he spotted Laura in the kitchen, on a break with her hair a bit frizzled and several packets of tea and coffee laying strewn on the table. "Hey, did you notice?"

"The new neighbors? Yeah, strange, it's like the Morgans weren't there but it's been months. Glad that they finally sold it."

Jim paused and then shook his head. "Sorry, thought they were still there. Man, work's been busting my balls lately."

Laura smiled and leaned up to kiss him on the cheek. "Speaking of work, sorry, it's going to be another late one tonight, okay?"

Jim nodded and occupied himself with some more work and a quick sandwich before he hopped in the shower for a quick rinse. He reached and slipped on the terry robe hanging on the counter and after brushing his teeth, stepped into the bedroom and looked at his notes again. For one thing, he was glad that his handwriting was a bit better to read, it was easier than some of the others he had been seeing, and several of his coworkers had complimented him on it. When your boss singles you out for praise in a morning meeting, well, that makes things go a bit easier for you.
