Chapter 14 by heavyhead103 heavyhead103

What's next?

Physiology class

You find an open seat and settle in. People are still staring at you, but the looks don't bother you nearly as much. The teacher begins the routine of introductions again, but doesn't ask you to introduce yourself this time. In fact, when she notices you she does a double take. She then looks down at her desk and flips through some papers.

"Excuse me, are you Alex Scott?"

You don't understand why she is so surprised, but you go along with it and confirm your identity.

"I think you're in the wrong class. I have you on my roster for next period."

Aw crap. You must have forgotten the order of your classes when you were rushing to school this morning. It's a little embarrassing, but you waste no time standing and excusing yourself, hoping to get to the correct class before too much more time passes. You think you notice some signs of disappointment from the other students as you walk towards the door. Normally you would be happy that people want to have you around, but in this case the it seems harder to appreciate. After all, it's probably not your personality they're interested in.

You stand there for a second, trying to recall what class you are supposed to be in, and how to get there. You're certain that P.E. is your last class, so leaves Speech. You start speed walking across the campus toward your class which is unfortunately on other side of campus.

As you're walking, you think you hear talking down a side hallway. You don't intentionally eavesdrop, but as you get closer you can't help but hear what you believe is your mother's voice. You take a peek around the corner, and find her talking with another woman you don't recognize. It seems you've caught them near the beginning of their conversation. You're already going to be pretty late, and you're really curious who the other lady is, so you decide to spend a little extra time to find out what they're talking about.

"And how did he take it?" the unknown woman ask.

"Pretty well. I didn't expect him to be upset about being the only male around, maybe he would even be a little excited, but I thought he'd be mad that we didn't tell him. I would understand if he was, but he seemed to take it really well. I hope he isn't just hiding his emotions." your mother replies.

"So you're sure there won't be any trouble between him and the other students or faculty? If he displays any discriminatory behavior, there's going to be a major issue. Most people moved here to avoid that type of thing."

"No no, he's a good boy. He would never do anything like that." your mother quickly reassures.

"I hope so. Well, I need to get back to the office now, I hope you have a nice day."

With that, the conversation ends and both women go off in different directions. You know what they were talking about, obviously, but you aren't sure who that woman was. She was definitely too old to be a student, and since she's out during class, you rule out the possibility of a teacher. She must be a member of the administration then. Your first thought is she's the principal, and while that's a very good guess, you can't really be sure.

You'll figure it out later. Right now you need to get to Speech.
