Chapter 2 by TheArchitect TheArchitect

What is the name?

Beth

Beth realized she was awake. The coldness in her privates suggested she was also naked, so she turned them towards the sheets she was lying on instead as her first act. Her brain, however, estimated the temperature conditions as optimal, which was going to come handy to comprehend what was happening.

The girl opened her eyes. Her white bed was folded down from the white wall in a giant white pavilion of some sort. The ceiling lights were tuned down to prevent eye soreness, and Beth was quick to appreciate that.

“This is considerate.”

There were a few benches with closed shelves under them within ten yards from her. Lone wardrobes and multitudinous shelf rows stood further away. A door that presumably led somewhere else could also be seen from there, but required cutting even more distance to get to.

“I’ve been ****, that’s a fact. My memories are gone, only the name remains, that’s also a fact. I can’t even be sure it’s mine and not something that was put there instead of my real name.”

Beth tried to gather something, anything from her past, but only found some emotional residue. Weariness. Indifference. Disappointment.

“If these led me away from myself, I should stop trying to recollect them.”

Her conscience was now focused on her immediate surroundings again. She wanted to know more, and achieving that was going to involve getting off the bed.

Beth's move.
