Nearly a clean getaway...

Forcing yourself to breathe deep and look around slowly one more time, you prepare to give the signal for Todd. There's still no sign of movement, so the coast looks clear.

You raise your hand, and within a few seconds you hear the solid thunk of the fire door swinging shut and the soft sounds of Todd's feet as he tries to scurry forwards quietly. You spare a glance at him as he passes you, the straps of the bag are creaking slightly on his back and you hear a muffled clank from the weapons inside as they shift with the movement. You flash him a smile and turn back to looking around.

Focusing on your watch, you aren't looking when you hear a sudden clatter. Jerking your head towards the sound, you realise that Todd has just stumbled over a piece of metal debris. It wasn't particularly loud, but there is so little sound that it will have carried easily. Todd is looking back at you, horrified, but you gesture for him to keep moving.

"Get to the alley," you hiss, as loud as you dare. He's probably just within earshot.

As he starts moving again, you figure that with the possibility of having pursuers alerted to your presence, you'd better get moving too. You gingerly begin to retreat in his direction, keeping up your watchful scanning of the area.

Still peaceful... still quiet. Almost to the alley...

But then, just as you're about to duck into the relative darkness and shelter, you see movement around the corner of the sheriffs building. Two of the scavenger group are coming your way. You catch a flash of somebody glancing around the wall, and another person, keeping low, making their way across the street towards your side of the road, homing in on the sound that Todd accidentally made.

They don't look like they've seen you, but they have a serious look on their faces. You have a few seconds to decide what to do.
