Back to the Guild

After helping Sofia put the now-singed cloak around her shoulders again, we headed back to the guild with our proof in tow. Upon entering the guild, a pair of adventurers sat at a table nearby pointed and laughed at Sofia.

“Look! The pyromaniac managed to sucker another one! And it looks like she already set herself on fire,” one adventurer laughed.

“I’d get away if I were you” another advised between laughs.

“Former friends of yours?” I asked. She nodded in embarrassment. “Ignore them. They’re just idiots. You saved my life, that’s what matters. Let’s go turn in our request.” We headed up to the clerk’s desk.

“Ah, Flynn, welcome back,” Anna said with a smile. “Looks like you’re already starting to get quite the party behind you. Sofia, if I’m not mistaken? The mage with advanced fire magic?”

“Yes, thank you Ms. Clerk,” Sofia said, shifting in place.

“Please, call me Anna. Anyway, onto business. I assume you’ve got a request to turn in?” she said.

“Yeah, here,” I said, handing over the request and the slime core.

“A slime hunt?” Anna said inquisitively. “That’s no joke, especially for a beginner like you. Nice work.” She reached below the counter and pulled up a small bag of coins. “Here’s your reward. 10 silver.”

“Thank you,” I said, taking the bag. “Here’s your cut.” I handed her five silver.

“Half? This much?” she said, surprised.

“What’s wrong?”

“N-nothing, it’s just, I’m not used to such generosity,” she confessed.

“There’s two of us, so we split it 50/50.” I said. “Anyway, do you know somewhere we can sleep for cheap? It’s starting to get dark.”

“Yeah, follow me,”
