Chapter 49

Does she find anything interesting down there?
Digit bites what she can chew
The efficiency with which the spiders had subdued the kobolds absolutely terrified Digit! While this was technically the best outcome she could've hoped for, that did little to ease her nerves.
Still, she let out a shaky breath of relief. The chaos was on pause. Her mind and body could rest, for now at least.
Running crisis management of such intensity had burned through her energy reserves, and she felt her stomach quietly grumble with the first waves of hunger. Seeing the meat that the kobold dropped hadn't helped. Would it be safe to eat? Would it even be safe to pick up, out in the open as it was? But conversely, would it be safe to ignore? She had no other plans for finding food right now.
So much for resting her mind after all.
A cold wind blew over her naked body, sending a shiver up her spine. She whirled around, panic-eyed... and saw nothing out-of-the-ordinary. It had felt, just for a moment, as if something had been watching her...
She hated this. She hated all of this! What was she even doing, protecting some random girl in the hopes of passing some imagined test? Deep down she knew that that was just her manic excuse she'd invented to cover up the dreadful truth, and yet she was risking her life... her life...
She couldn't do this any more! Things were quiet for now, but dangers just kept on coming. At least on Mordekai's antlers she felt a little safe, like she could relax. Right now, that's all she wanted... well, not all, but it'd do.
She held her rupee tightly under one arm, and reached for her ring. With a yelp, she recoiled as a static shock jolted through her index finger right as she touched it. It took her less than a second to recover, and the remainder of the second was spent regretting letting her voice out. Whether or not her position was compromised, she didn't want to wait to find out. The choice to move had now been made for her. She grabbed the ring tightly and shot off from the roof.
She flew low, flitting left and right erratically. She expected to be struck by a flying ball of web at any second! As for what would come after that, she daren't even contemplate.
She fluttered over the dropped jerky without slowing down. With her hands full, she had little choice but to grab at it with her teeth. She could only drag a single piece with her in this way, but that should still be more than enough for her tiny fairy body.
She kept flying frantically until she reached the edge of the clearing, only slowing down as she approached Mordekai. She gently alighted upon his antlers once more, and only then did she dare look back at the cabin.
The spiders were both still going at the kobolds. Her escape had gone by completely without their attention. She let out an exhausted chuckle, muffled by the meat in her mouth, and felt the tension leave her muscles as she caught her breath.
To free up a hand, she slipped the ring over one of Mordekai's antler branches, pushing it down until it was securely held in place. She then took the meat out of her mouth and held it in her now-free hand.
Her finger still tingled from the shock, but the fact that that was the worst of her problems was truly a blessing, considering the madness she'd just left behind. She bit a chunk out of the dried meat, and spent a blissful moment not considering her next move for once.
(1 action point: fly to Mordekai)
(1 action point: grab a strip of meat with teeth)
(1 action point: equip ring on Mordekai)
Does the peace last?
IMPREGNATAR
A KINKY GAME OF SURVIVAL AND IMPREGNATION
An interactive survival story that's like a combination of D&D, Dark Souls, and Zelda, YOU play and write as a character in the video game world of IMPREGNATAR. Your character awakens, spawned into the middle of nowhere in a game world with little memory of who they are, how they got there, and all but the faintest of survival assets. Post by post they will explore their surroundings hoping to gain skills, level up, and survive by avoiding any Bad End scenarios with a horrific (and probably kinky) fate. Each character gets one chance, but meeting a Bad End results in being permanently Lost. In the land of IMPREGNATAR where everything wants to breed you, do you have the skills (and the luck) to survive? Contact me on Discord @Progenitor Rex#0397 for more information!
