Birthday Suit

After getting out of bed and taking a quick shower, you go out to the kitchen where you see your mom cooking some pancakes. “Good morning, birthday boy! Your sister is still in bed, can you go and wake her up so I don’t burn your breakfast?” She asks. “Sure” you say going over to knock on Rose’s door. She doesn’t respond, so you knock again, this time louder. When she doesn’t respond again, you open up the door to her room you see her, still asleep in her bed, as naked as the day she was born 18 years ago.

You stand there, frozen in shock. “Breakfast is ready kids!” Your mom calls out. You see rose shift in her bed. “Rose” you say, trying to wake her up. “Rose” you say again, this time louder. You try not to look at her, but you can’t get the image of your naked sister out of your head. “Rose!” You say again, now nearly shouting. “Five more minutes” she mumbles, rolling over. Then, realizing that she is naked and you are right there, she quickly covers herself with her blanket and apologizes. You quickly shut the door and head back to the kitchen to eat.

After you and your sister eat in awkward silence, your mom brings over two sealed envelopes to the table. “Your father wrote these to you when you were born and told me to give them to you both turned 18 if he died.” She said, handing them to you and your sister. “Read them quickly and then get ready for school. Just because you are 18 now doesn’t mean you can be late for high school”
