Chapter 22 by tantrikenetic
Do you tell her the truth or make something up?
Tell The Truth.
"Well, to be honest...I kinda took your advice." You say sheepishly, cratching the back of your head. Melody cocks her head in confusion. "I met a girl."
The slightest hint of sadness crossed Melody's face before she quickly masked it with a thoughtful expression. "R-really?"
"Yeah. A girl from my math class. I met her on the way off campus and she asked me to help tutor her for our midterm. She started hitting on me the minute we got to her room. And, well, one thing led to another." Your face gets beet red as you remember your encounter with Meghan.
"You...had sex with her?" Melody asked, her voice slightly shakey.
"Um...yeah. I did." You furrow your brow. There is definitely something bothering her about this. Suddenly it hits you and you nearly slap your own forehead. How could you have been so dense? The poor girl just got dumped and here you are flaunting a recent hook-up! How could you have fucked that up?
"Wow...that's...good for you." She says, clearing her throat. She looks away from you for a moment and shakes her head slightly.
"Oh, jeez. I am so sorry, Melody." You say. "I didn't think...I mean with what happened with you and Keith...that was really insensitive of me. I shouldn't..."
"It's okay." Melody says, turning back to face you. Her eyes are slightly wet, but she's smiling and the smile looks pretty genuine. "I am happy for you, Jack. Really. You shouldn't have to deny yourself happiness on my account."
"It still isn't cool for me to be flaunting it like that." You say, walking up to her.
"I would be angrier if you were hiding it from me." She said. "And if you had turned down a cute girl who was obviously jonesing for you because of me, I'd have to slap you silly." She turned pensive. "She was cute, right?"
"Yeah, but not as cute as you." You grin goofily. She laughs lightly.
"Good answer." She sets her book down and holds her arms out. You quickly embrace her and hold her close. She rests her head on your chest and sighs. "Sorry for the tears. I have been a bit of an emotional wreck."
"Don't you dare apologize for that." You reply and kiss the top of her head. "You have nothing to be sorry for."
"I'm glad you're home. I needed a hug." She says. "I may not have been entirely truthful when I told you to leave earlier."
"Sorry. I knew I shouldn't have left." You reply.
"Now don't you go apologizing for things that aren't your fault, either." She scolds you. "Don't take the fall for my foolish pride."
"Well, I'm here now. We can spend some time together. Maybe watch a movie or something." You say with a smile.
"I'd like that." She smiles back. And she did. The two of your spent the rest of the evening watching movies, playing games and joking around. Spending time with you must have made Melody very happy, because she was in good spirits and that made your heart feel even lighter. Seeing her so elated always manages to make you feel at peace. And between the wonderful time with Meghan and the wonderful time with Melody, you feel like you may have had one of the best nights of your life.
But...what happens the next day?
