"Yeah, it's definitely not going to be a normal party after-" That sounded like Matt as you burst from your cover behind the bridge.

"BOO!" You shouted, both Matt and Emily jumping in sudden fright as you spooked them.

"Woah dude." "Jesus!" They shouted back as you chuckled.

"Haha, you should've seen your faces." You said.

"I almost clocked you right there man." Matt replied, Emily opting for a more childish glare.

"Why do you have to be like this Michael, news flash, you aren't funny!" Emily spat out sharply.

"Me be like this, that's rich, you're the one who constantly has a stick up her ass!" You bit back.

"Okay, okay, I'm just going to lay it out calmly. Just so this weekend doesn't suck ass, can we please just move on Mike?" Matt asked.

For a few seconds, you refused to answer, before finally you gave a dismissive, "Fine, moving on. Moving on to the cable car station." You said and with a mocking wave, kept walking down the trail.

_"That was unexpected," You thought. "As soon as I saw Em's face, I just got angry. I know what happened between us, and I know it isn't real, just something I did to stir up drama, but it still hurt."_ You continued, your mind aglow as you kept walking towards the cable car station, attempting to rein in your rebellious emotions.

You heard the soft crunching of snow behind you, and knowing who it was, you momentarily ducked off the path behind a tree.

You heard the pursuer stop a moment later, softly calling out, "Michael, I know you didn't go that far already."

Deciding it was probably better you didn't see each other right now, especially without someone to referee, you stayed silent, idlely picking at the tree in front of you.
