Dad wants to talk

Coming into your office, your dad stretched a bit and casted a warm smile at your direction. Despite the urge to scream, yell, or even kick him out of your inner sanctuary, you instead merely turned your back on him again and gestured to the view spreading out before you. "What a way to wake up in the morning."

He stepped right next to you and looked out at the scene before you and nodded in agreement. There were a few spots in the city that had good vantage spots but your place was perched right at the curb where the highway went from inner-city to interstate and you had both a view of the rolling hills to the north and to the east was the bay. IT cost you a pretty mint or, rather, it would've cost you had you paid for it yourself and not negotiated it as part of the package to get you to work at the labs downtown. 5% of your earnings in exchange for this property was a no-brainer.

"So..."

You sipped the tea and tilted your head a little. "What do I call you? Calling you 'dad' just doesn't seem to fit you...at least, not at currently," you gestured without looking at the reflection in the window.

He smiled a little. "Wondered when you'd bring that up. I don't feel like your dad, and I'd understand...."

You shook your head and snarled a dismissive cutoff. He took the hint. "I'd guess using my stage name too would be out, doubt there's a lot of room for a Mimi here."

You snickered at that but kept yourself quiet and not responding. After a few more moments of silence, he sighed. "What did you want to call me?"

"Kayla."

He blinked in surprise at the name and then looked at you, or rather your head as you had refused to stop looking out the window. "Kayla? Why that name?"

You looked at him for the first time this morning. "Calling you 'bitch' doesn't seem appropriate either," you muttered and walked out of the room towards the kitchen.
