Taenya - Elf maiden

Taenya was sitting up late in her small chambers, she was finishing off her prayers kneeling before her small statue of the goddess. Taenya had spent her whole life in the chapel, since her early age she had wanted to worship the goddess finding happiness in the joy she can give others. After dedicating her life to the goddess Taenya had taken to wearing her white robes all the time, no longer needing her casual clothes as she believed she would always be worshipping the goddess and therefore would always be dressed accordingly.

The people of Brightan took religion very seriously and most if not all the village attended the weekly services.

As Taenya finished her prayers she heard a faint noise, her elven ears enabled her to hear things better than the humans of the village. She opened her small window and leaned out listening closely, she heard the sounds of heavy footsteps, deep grunting, then a faint scream. Orcs, it had to be Orcs.

Taenya ran over and grabbed her candlestick running through the corridors towards the elders room. She banged on the door rapidly knowing the elder was a heavy sleeper. After much knocking the elder came to the door rubbing his eyes, he was a little short human in his late ages but all the village treated him with respect.

"Taenya what are you doing up at this hour?"

"I'm sorry, but I heard something, I think it's Orcs, and they're here."

"Orcs...they have never attacked this village in all the time I've been here."

"I know what I heard, please we must do something."

The Elder smiled reaching out to place her hands in his.

"If it worries you that much I'll go to the barracks and tell them your fears. They'll patrol the village and make sure everything is okay."

Taenya smiled and bowed to the elder happy he was taking her seriously. He smiled back and made his way down the corridor towards the main doors. Taenya accompanied him, walking alongside him arm in arm. They got to the main door and the elder again put her hands in his.

"You wait here, I won't be long, don't worry yourself over this. I'm sure it's nothing."

Taenya nodded as the Elder left the chapel closing the big double doors behind him.

Taenya sat down in the first row of benches, she waited patiently, maybe it was just a random Orc that stumbled into the village, the knights would deal with it, the elder would return and everything would be normal. Taenya absently started singing the prayer of the goddess as she waited, however she stopped singing as she heard screaming, screaming and the sounds of glass breaking, loud voices, grunting, more screaming.

Taenya ran over to the window looking out to see the orange and red glow coming off the buildings she could see.

Taenya panicked, she didn't know what was doing on, she ran over to the main doors, quickly slamming the deadbolt trying her best to secure the chapel. She looked around not knowing what to do in this sort of situation, she knelt down and prayed to the goddess hoping for guidance, hoping for the elder or the knights to come to her aid. Her prayer was however disturbed by loud banging on the main door.
