Dr. Joan Watson was starting to hate this night.
Not that she hadn't bad nights before. That night at Baskerville Hall when she and Holmes were chased by that gigantic hound, that night at Reichenbach Falls when Holmes confronted his arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty and of course, that night she was assigned to follow the mysterious Irene Adler, only to end up stripped, tied up and gagged by the fiendishly clever Miss Adler.
But somehow this night seemed worse. At least in those instances the world still made sense. Even when she lost her clothes, it was at the hands of a normal human being and not some mysterious fiend of a type she had never seen before.
As Joan watched in horror, the thing that used to be Miss Lucy Westenra rose to its feet and smiled the type of smile that Joan never expected to see on the face of a human being, much less a fellow Englishwoman. For some reason, Joan was suddenly reminded of the wolf which had torn off her dress, only this beast stood on two legs, not four.
And it was taller than Joan. Not that Joan considered herself especially short compared to most women but she did have short legs. And this creature had long legs. Really long legs.
Which meant it could outrun her.
Well, just don't stand there like a blithering idiot, Joan told herself. Run. At least you'll have more of a chance that way than you don't even try to run at all.
So she ran.
The wolf-thing stared after her for a moment, glanced around the corridor for a few minutes, and then shrugged. She had given the Chinese woman enough of a head start to make chasing her interesting. Now for the fun part.
And with that, the creature that now called itself Lucy Westenra Hyde ran after the short-legged Chinese girl and hoped that the girl would not make it too easy for Lucy to rip off the rest of her clothing.
